And live in fear for your own neck while those around you are treated worse than the dirt the scratch in to make a living knowing full well you can do something about it? That's what the folks in power want us to feel, afraid. I wish I knew I would have the fortitude to do the same if I was in his shoes.

The silliest part is they recipe really should be done grind everything together, mix with spirits, take to drying rack.

Mixing black powder with small amount of alcohol gives it more of a grainy texture (instead of a powdery one) and it will burn faster and cleaner and store more safely.

Dark Overlords, what are you to do if your chief architect insists that a tower taller than the tallest mountain is not a feasable idea for your Citadel of Doom?
 in  r/AskReddit  8d ago

Inquire amongst my dread artificiers and black-hearted doom-gineers as to why. Once I've had the squared-cube law explained to me I would mastermind a brutal research and develop regime unseen in the land since the times of the wise ancients! This campaign of technological terror would garner me no friends amongst my accounts and middle managers, but the world will see, yes, the world! If I inadvertently harkenin a golden age of technology and prosperity wrought from such advancements, so be it! Seems but a trifling sum to pay for my. Fucking. TOWER!

What are you willing to admit is wrong with/annoying about your chosen political party or affiliation?
 in  r/AskReddit  9d ago

They insist on playing by the other sides rules and obstinately refuse to call out what the goalposts are shifted. They always snootily think they'll beat them at their own game somehow if they just shift and adapt when the people that voted for them just want them to do what they said they would do. It's maddening.

I have to come up with a title for this. Any ideas?

Flashing caused by some of the water soluble fluxing agents wicking through the pores in the surface of the clay body.

I'd love to see the attitude warhouse brought to this kind of rpg spread around the world. Give me something about the moorish conquest of the Iberian peninsula. Give me something like kcd meets Mongolia. Or the Polynesian islands. Or central Africa.

What’s a political opinion you hold that would make both the left and right mad?
 in  r/AskReddit  21d ago

All bills should be brought to floor, debated in situ, and given 1 week to be deliberated, bar none. Inability to compromise or come to an agreement should met with automatic criminal penalties of the elected officials, bar none. At the same time campaign donations may not be accepted or solicit led more that 100 days before an election and all extra in the campaign coffer must be redistributded back to the donors in equal measure up to 50% of that person's donation.

Help request on well pump house plumbing.

Re-plumbing my well house to replace a pressure tank and old leaky pump. Everything after the main line from the ground to the service line to the house is getting cut out and replaced with pvc and I'm adding in a sediment filter.

It's a shallow well, only about 20ft deep. Foot valve is in good condition and no leaks in the line, the old pump has never lost it's head.

I have two main questions and one little question:

  1. From the well to the pump, does it go check valve > sediment filter > pump? Or do I need to put the sediment filter after the pump? I've seen it both ways and I'm not sure if I have enough room in my pump house to fit it in before the pump unless I flip the pump 180° and snake the pipe up and over and I don't want to do that if I can put the filter after the pump.

  2. Can I use a 3/4 compression to 1" threaded fitting to connect the pvc to the house? I don't have a lot of room to mess that up on the pipe from the house so I would prefer to use a compression fitting

And the little question, do I need a pressure release valve if I only keep the system at 20/40? The pump manual swears I need it for any pressure but there isn't on installed on the current system so I just don't know.

Thank you for you time!

Would alien pathogens really be able to infect us? (And vice versa)
 in  r/scifiwriting  Mar 08 '25

They may not be able to "infect" us, but if there are any critters that happen to find a part of us as a cozy place to settle down then we'd be in for a bad time. Who's to say there isn't some kind of fungal analog out there that sets up shop in our lungs or the ports of our skin or our eyeballs just happy as a clam?

Plenty of earthly examples. Valley fever is a colloquial term for a certain kind of fungal infection of the lungs. That mold loves dank desert caves which our lungs are just happen to resemble. For most people The body usually fights it off as a nasty bout of bronchitis, but plenty of folk succumb to the illness every year for it to be a real concern in the American Southwest.

How to explain why aliens (or humans) won’t just throw ships/rocks at FTL (or very high sublight speeds) toward their enemy planets in science fiction?
 in  r/scifiwriting  Mar 07 '25

FTL requires a massive amount out computing power. Full half the power consumption of any given FTL ship is dedicated to running these super computers. The fact is its just far to resource intensive to throw it away by destroying a planet. Far easier to change the orbit of a few dozen planet killer asteroids and put them into intercept orbits

Praise [KCD2] kudos to the devs for allowing mutt to walk UNDER fences that he could obviously fit through instead of making him path all the way around to a opening.

What's to stop the people who actually do the work of such things from just, like continuing to do the work and lie to this guy about it? Send the acquired info to every major news outlet and governors desk, that kind of thing?
