Of all the things to do in a developing country...
Would you really want to spend your “vacation” dragging around 2 kids who are miserable because they just had surgery? That is so messed up.

Specialist appt next week, what meds can I suggest to try? I’m very severe. What I’ve already tried in body text
Alpha lipoic acid can harm people with silver dental fillings. Be very careful with it.

Thoughts on sea scallops?
I love them when they don’t have that preservative in them. Apparently only some people can taste it and I am one of the unlucky. I can never seem to find out if they have it or not so I never buy them any more.

What’s the most bizarre thing a medical professional has ever said to you?
I see your phone number here in your chart. Can I call you to take you to dinner this weekend?

Raise your hand if you are...
There’s actual data around some of this if you want to dive into it. In some areas (autoimmunity for example) delays in diagnosis have improved dramatically. But medical bias is absolutely still a problem.
In some cases, people view the diagnosis and symptoms as “obvious” once it’s been figured out and they forget how vague and complex their presentation really was. But I think it probably happens far more than anyone would be happy to acknowledge. For many reasons.
Example in my family (where we are a mixture of physicians and scientists); my father had a stroke while driving. Taken to hospital by ambulance where the ER doctor decided he was drunk. Police handcuffed him to his bed and they did nothing.
It took over an hour to get the BAC back, which was zero. Even longer to finally get a CT scan. Missed the window for TPA.

22 yr-old Charlie Johns reading the bible to his 9 yr-old bride, Eunice Winstead. They married in 1937 and went on to have 9 children together.
I’m afraid to ask…..but how old was she when her first child was born?
ETA: I’m looked on the wiki page. She was 15 when her first child was born.

Difficulty letting go of what I thought my life would be
I was shocked by how crappy I felt when I couldn’t make enough milk and had to supplement with formula. I knew logically that my baby was fine, but breastfeeding has been made into this mythical definition of motherhood. And pumping is hard so it’s an extra amount of work and fatigue.
I’d say just be aware that your feelings are real, but you don’t have to be owned by them. It won’t always feel as important as it does right now.

Please help me bake tilapia for my dog
Do you have a steamer? Put the fish on a piece of parchment and steam until just cooked through.

We should be able to eat on the train, but don’t Spit your Trash on the Ground
My kid is so horrified that I won’t let him spit shells on the ground at baseball games. His whole team does it, the coaches do it - the dugout and sidelines looks disgusting. He can spit in a cup or not eat sunflower seeds. I don’t give a fuck if the rest of the world is doing it. It’s littering and it’s gross.

Peer-to-peer... with a chiropractor?
Not the same. The guy refilling the vending machine is making an honest living and isn’t harming anyone.

What other parenting subreddits have you found to be safe and supportive and not full of parents of the right?
I got banned there for asking a question about the science behind the claims made by a mod. I’m actually a scientist.

Tell me about your afterschool care stories.
My son generally loves aftercare. They are play focused and the kids hang out on the playground and he plays with his friends. I do think the first year was a little harder on him but now he asks to stay later sometimes because he’s having so much fun.
I like to think about it as a great opportunity for free play and is the modern day version of “sending the kids outside to play” but in a pretty safe way.

Wife left a big bag of groceries out overnight. All Meat and cheese. 🙄
I splurged and made a beautiful ribeye last night for my family. Wrapped up the leftovers to make steak wraps for lunch today and left the whole thing on the counter. Not quite as sad as yours, but I was so annoyed with myself when I saw it this morning.

AITAH husband and MIL bullying me into being SAHM but I paid for our house
Sorry - I’m a little confused. Usually I would say husband really sucks for not doing his share.
But am I understanding correctly that you don’t work outside the home, you have a full time nanny, and regular cleaning help? So what exactly is stopping you from going back to work?

To whom it may concern- Can we please stop going 45mph on the freeway?!?? Tell your family and friends holy s***!!
Merging deserves its own sub in the Bay Area. The number of blind and or super short merges here is ridiculous. And people are nuts in that they either stop at the end of the merge or refuse to allow merges.

Can we ban together and agree that nobody should ever send a “Hi” only in Teams?! 😂🤪
This question was posted on a biotech sub I’m in and I was absolutely stunned at the number of people defending this and claiming it’s an invitation to enter a conversation with someone and that it’s perfectly fine. Probably close to half of people were quite aggressively in support of the practice.
I hate it and I actually will not reply to those messages.

Sick of Optum Pharmacy
Optum is terrible and Walgreens is horrible too. I can’t find a pharmacy with even a modicum of decent patient care.

Question as we consider the insanely high cost of afterschool next year - would you keep a 3rd grader home with minimal supervision from 2:30-4:30 to save $900+ a month?
That wouldn’t work well for me if it was daily.
At aftercare my kid plays outside for hours with his friends. It’s really good for him and well worth the money IMHO.
I do pick him up early for activities and 1-2 days a week so he can chill at home while I work. He knows there are no screens during that time and I leave it up to him if he wants aftercare or not.

How many times per day do you hear, "Oh, am I not seeing the doctor today?"
I see two specialists regularly (one for me and one for my kid) - saw the doctor for several years. For recent appointments I showed up and an NP saw us. I was never notified and when I look at the appointment in my app it still lists the MD.
I do find that annoying and inappropriate.

Uncommon NOT unique boy names!
I rarely see boys named Robert, Adam, or Nicholas where I live anymore.

What’s a popular trend you absolutely refuse to take part in?
Exploiting my kid and violating their right to privacy to make money on social media platforms

I’m wanting to get married at the end of this year but I’m stuck in a dead end job.
I’m sorry to hear about your mom.
But keep in mind the risk is not just for you. Your GF may qualify for medical and financial assistance that could be lost if she has your income.

I’m wanting to get married at the end of this year but I’m stuck in a dead end job.
Are you in the US? If so, Getting legally married can be very high risk when one person has a serious chronic illness. Married couples sometimes have to divorce during high cost illnesses to prevent bankruptcy.

What's your "secret" ingredient for spaghetti sauce?
Not an ingredient exactly, but time. Long slow cooking makes sauce so much better.
Also, a little butter added right at the end.
