[stolen from the Lexus sub] - How old are you and what Ford do you drive?
 in  r/Ford  2d ago

I'm 32, and daily drive a '10 Raptor. My project truck is an '86 Bronco. I've also owned a '12 Mustang GT, '97 Mustang GT, '07 F150 CC/6.5, '08 F150 Scab/6.5, '94 F150 RCLB, '91 F150 RCLB, 86 F250 Scab/8ft, and an '81 F100 RCLB flatbed.

I have a problem, but I'm ok with it!

After 13 years of riding, today I learned how to reduce the 1st gear clunk.
 in  r/motorcycles  6d ago

I'm really coming to realize that. You can't replicate the feeling. And let's be honest, my '98 Sportster is, on paper, a turd of a motorcycle lol but i love it.

I've had 2 SV650s and an SV1000, leading into this Sportster. There's also a ZX14R in my garage. The amount of character in a V-Twin just makes motorcycles better, to me. There's a good chance my Ninja becomes an FTR1200, Super Duke, or Ducati, one day.

We are exact opposites lol I always thought my sport bikes had a "positive" feeling when kicking into 1st, this Harley is absolutely a mechanical protest!

And of course, I'm also paranoid because my Sporty had a damaged trans when I bought it. 1st and 3rd had worn dogs, I found out after tear down. I swapped in an early '94 trans, which meant I needed to frankenstein it with some parts out of my '98 trans. So naturally that didn't help my paranoia! But she's happy now, running '94 1-4, and '98 5th gear lol

After 10+ japanese sport bikes, buying an old Sportster has been a wild change. That CLACK when putting it into 1st hurts my soul lol I can't believe it can be that loud, and perfectly normal. Mind boggling

Is this a Harley wheel?
 in  r/sportster  15d ago

Looks like the front wheel on my '98 883

Don’t know where to go

The service manager, service director, and or possibly shop foreman, is the guy you want to talk to. Advisors don't have any hiring abilities, that all happens further up the ladder from their job title.

How has you’re taste in cars changed as you have aged?
 in  r/cars  17d ago

My taste in cars has stayed alarmingly similar to how it began. Modified pickup trucks, and muscle cars. My daily drivers have fit that criteria for 15 years now. It's been the most consistent thing about my life lol. That being said, I am really starting to get the bad idea to find a V8 Mercedes or Audi sedan. But my wallet is so far keeping my impulse at bay. I think I've done the Ford thing for so long, itd be interesting to branch out

My taste in motorcycles though, that has changed rapidly in the last couple years. Going from all out sport, to valuing comfort as well. So naturally I bought a bike that is classified as a sports tourer, although I'd argue it's just a comfortable sport bike. Then I also bought a Harley, which is ironically less comfortable than the sporty bike. But I feel cool on it

What's the point of a Maverick now that prices have risen?
 in  r/FordMaverickTruck  18d ago

It's hilarious that people make that assumption. I've always been a full size truck guy, and was looking to trade in my F150 on a Maverick when they came out. The supply chain, and the dealers, made it impossible. I ended up trading the F150 for a 5.0 Mustang, and 2.5 years later traded that on an older Raptor. And now a Maverick MSRP is high enough, I'd rather just buy a RCSB 5.0 F150. I'm a single guy, with Jon Boats and motorcycles. Maybe once a year I'll be pulling a car hauler. A Maverick is literally all the truck I need. But the dealers made it so hard to do anything, I just stayed with cool, older, vehicles. I was excited to buy my first brand new vehicle, and have a DD for years to come.

People are funny. They'll look down on a Maverick, but congratulate me on buying a 15 year old Raptor, for a fair bit less than a Maverick XL costs!

Ford Owners: What Would Make a Subscription Worth It?
 in  r/Ford  20d ago

Nothing makes a subscription worth it. If I have to make a hefty down payment, followed by $500+ a month payments, that vehicle better be all mine, and all working, at all times. Locking features behind a paywall means I will not be spending my dollars on that brand.

I've had 10+ Fords. My project truck is a Ford. My daily is a Raptor. I value ownership, I do not want subscription anything, and I will never buy a vehicle that uses a subscription service.

Why do people back into parking spaces?
 in  r/NoStupidQuestions  22d ago

I back in, because I'm used to pickup trucks that would need more swing space than most parking lots provide. In reverse, I can put my truck in any spot with ease. Going forward, it's going to be a 3 point turn to get the truck into the spot properly. Following that, backing out into traffic is way more dangerous than pulling out forwards.

About the only place I park forward is in my own driveway. And that's just to keep the sun/UV off the front of the truck

Anyone else still remembers why Ford puts a white circle around the D?
 in  r/Ford  22d ago

Overdrive! My 91 and 94 F150 had the same PRDL setup. My Bronco isn't so lucky, it just drinks gas lol

Which HD models would sell on merit alone, if it wasn't branded.
 in  r/Harley  Mar 07 '25

That last part, about the "feeling," is something I never understood until I bought an old 883. It's a clunky, tractor of a motorcycle, to put it nicely. But I just like riding it. I'm still chasing the right ergo package so it doesn't hurt me to ride it, though. This stupid thing causes me more aches, pains, and discomfort, than any of my sport bikes ever did. But I finally understand the feeling, and my wallet is unhappy about it lol

What’s with the 🍆 measuring contest from the Harley riders😂
 in  r/Kawasaki  Feb 28 '25

The dick measuring contest seeps into almost all the interactions too! I just recently picked up an old 883, and when I take it around Harley people, they all just assume I'm a new rider, and need to upgrade. It's comical, really. I've been riding for 13 years, my other bike is a ZX14R. I just wanted to try out a cruiser style bike! I thought I might be spared because my Sporty is almost 30 years old, but apparently it'll never stop being a girl's bike lol

Why if Fast Food such a joke now?
 in  r/Millennials  Feb 28 '25

I had a crunch wrap for the first time in years, a couple weeks ago. They used to have meat in them! This one might as well have been a salad, with one spoonful of beef.

Wicked disappointed

Couldnt have said it better myself. And then when he has truly risen to the level of public menace, an E-Bike is calling his name

2wd truck at boat launch
 in  r/boating  Feb 27 '25

I have a 12ft V-hull, with a 15hp and a bimini. Fully loaded, the whole setup (including trailer) is sub-1000 pounds. I've mainly pulled it with my 86 Bronco 4x4 on 33" mud tires, and never needed to engage 4x4. I've also pulled it with an 81 F100 4x2 flatbed, and a '23 Ranger 4x2. Never had an issue with any of those trucks, never spun a tire, no drama. With a sub-1000 pound setup, a 4x2 should be fine.

That being said, all my stuff has a limited slip, or E-locker rear end. If your truck has a conventional/"open" differential, that means you'll be a one wheel peel, if you lose traction.

Should I get into mechanics as a career?
 in  r/MechanicAdvice  Feb 26 '25

Mechanics are a dime a dozen, technicians are not.

I'm a Master level tech, and the shop foreman at my dealership. In the 10 years I've been there, we have had a total of one new master tech appear, and that was me after a lot of training. We've started tons of guys, and they consistently don't work out. Finding a technician that's able to accurately and efficiently repair cars is not an easy task.

We have a guy who started with us 6ish months ago, came in off the street, never worked on a car before, but has a killer work ethic, and is very trainable. He's the first guy that's come into this shop that makes me say "he has a future in this field, I hope he doesn't leave." It's a true rarity, at this point.

Remember, any minor traffic infraction is actually an attempt on your life, and should be treated as such.

And, should you find yourself feeling bored with the level of asshole you are, remember to switch genre of motorcycle, so that you can essentially be an asshole in two different languages

How comfortable are the gxrs?
 in  r/GSXR  Feb 24 '25

For me, it's all tailbone pain, in the standard cruiser position.

I've tried 2 different sets of mini ape style bars, a ~6" and a ~10" pair, both of which lead to tailbone pain. I also tried drag bars, which alleviated the tailbone issue, but left me with some discomfort in my back like a sport bike after a few hours. I also swapped from forward controls to mid controls, which has helped a bit, as well as getting a bigger, more padded seat.

I'm about to buy a set of 6" Z Bars for it, which I should be able to roll forward far enough to get my back in the right position. The apes I've tried, when rolled forward, leave the grips at a weird angle that doesn't feel good. It's been a real pain trying to make a comfortable bike!

I'm 5'7" and have the same issue. I can ride my ZX14 for hours at a time, but my Sportster has me begging to stop after about 90 minutes. Still trying to remedy that with ergo changes, but it's hilarious to me that my quest for a comfortable cruiser has so far not been working in my favor lol

I have about 10k and I want a bike that goes real fast and looks real good.
 in  r/SuggestAMotorcycle  Feb 21 '25

$10k will get you a ZX14R these days. It's a little sporty, but still comfortable for the medium range. Looks great, and will completely rewire your brain when it comes to speed.
