Legal Question Can I buy an empty 30 round magazine?

Upvotes

I want the metal box part of an obscure gun's 30 round magazine for a display project. Never intend to use it on a firearm. Is this legal to purchase and have shipped here if the spring is removed?

Hello team, I'm wondering why I can't find any Marlin or Ruger lever action rifles at all in the state of California for sale at any of the gun stores?

Add Thumbrest to Kydex Grip?

I know there are various available featureless grip options for the AR platform.

I’m searching for options when doing featureless on a non AR platform.

Kydex fin grip seems to be the only solution. Is there any creative ways or examples of attaching a thumbrest (3D printed or simple L shaped or curved piece of metal) to kydex grip for something a little more comfortable?

I have a S&W FPC and Ruger LC Carbine in 10mm that I am scratching my head on how to incorporate some sort of thumbrest into the setup.

I welcome any out of the box or Macgyver solutions. All about functionality/ergonomics and could care less about cosmetics.

How much should i be paying OTD sig

Looking at first with either the p226 extreme or scorpion, both of them seemed kind of pricey when i checked.

I think the extreme was $1600 out the door after tax etc, and im guessing the scorpion would be similar since the listing was close to the extreme. Are these prices super unreasonable since they were both listed in the 1200-1300 range before tax?

Would appreciate any insight.

Second round of FFL03 ammo unboxing

https://outdoorlimited.com/9mm-ammo/2a-patriot-sports-9mm-luger-ammunition-p9mm124fmj-124-grain-full-metal-jacket-case-1000-rounds/

This is my second round of online ammo and my second round of 2A Patriot Sports 9mm 124g. Total cost $228.80 to my door. I purchased 1000 rounds of this stuff last month, but have yet to shoot it, so more to follow on that. I wanted to do a quick unboxing of this stuff and a box size comparison as this is something that I am starting to factor for storage. Why did I buy this stuff? Why not, I wanted to try it. I know I can get S&B or Blazers for a few bucks more, or brand X for a few bucks less, but let's try this stuff out for now. This is my second order from https://outdoorlimited.com and I have to say that so far it has been a breeze working with them. Ammo comes to my door in 7-8 calendar days, no sin tax and free shipping. I am so glad I got that Ffl03. If you are on the fence about the Ffl03, I have to tell you that it is so worth it. I appreciate this sub, thanks r/CAguns

Legal Question Question regarding out of state transfer from family member who passed away

Recently my grandfather passed away and left behind a M44 Mosin Nagant. And he left no will which has complicated some things. My aunt (who is the trustee on the estate) said I can have the rifle which now begs the question as to how to get it to me legally. My grandfather purchased the rifle at a gun shop and to the best of my knowledge it’s registered in his name. I am now a Colorado resident but I have a California hunters ed card (as well as an expired California drivers license) I should also mention I have purchased firearms in the past when I was a Cali resident when I was 18 with a hunting license and they are registered to my old address in Cali where my parents still live.

My questions are

1.can I use my expired California DL and hunting license to have the firearm transferred to me through DROS? 2. Would it just be easier to have it shipped to an FFL out here in Colorado? 3.Will there be any issues at the FFL because my aunt is not a California resident and does not have an FSC and technically isn’t the registered owner?

Any insight or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Need Help Registering an Inherited Taurus .38 Special in California

Hey everyone! I’m looking for some guidance on how to properly register a revolver that belonged to my late grandfather, who passed away in 2021. We just found the gun in his belongings—an older Taurus .38 Special that he probably purchased in the early 1990s—and I want to make sure everything is done legally so I can register it in my name.

Some background details:

  • My grandfather passed in 2021, and we only just found this revolver.
  • I’m in California and know there can be strict rules around firearm registration and inheritance.
  • The gun doesn’t appear to be registered (or at least, we have no record of registration paperwork).
  • I’m not sure if it was ever in the state’s system.

I’ve read a bit about using either the “Operation of Law” form (BOF 4544A) for inherited guns or possibly the “Firearm Ownership Report” (BOF 4542A) if I can’t do an intrafamily transfer the usual way. But I’m still unclear on the specifics—like if there are penalties for registering it this late, what documents I might need as proof of inheritance, or how to handle the process of getting a Firearm Safety Certificate.

Has anyone here gone through a similar situation in California? Any tips on which form I should use, how to navigate the CFARS system, or whether I should consult an attorney first? Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful.

Thanks in advance! I appreciate any insight you can share.

Looking to get into the 2011 game but I don’t know much. I’ve seen there’s places in SoCal where they sell/ are able to get them for you but I live in the North Bay. Is there any shops that have them in NorCal? I know about PPT’s but I’d like to get a new one if possible

Discreet Rifle Storage

I have to cross the street to get to my car whenever I wanna go shoot. I don’t like the idea of carrying a rifle bag where people can obviously tell what’s inside, so I want something I can carry my upper and lower in without it looking like I’m carrying a gun. Any recommendations? Preferably something lockable too.

Legal Question Deceased step-father’s gun.. how do I legally make it mine?

My step-father passed away in February.

We’re going through the process of cleaning out his house and I found a firearm. Smith & Wesson Highway Patrolman Revolver Model No. 28.

I’m not sure if he registered it. I don’t know the history of it. We didn’t even know he had it.

No one else in the family wants it. I’d love to have it.

What do I need to do to make it mine? Do I need to register it? Do I need to prove how I got it? How would I even prove how I got it?

Storing firearm in a family member's home

Hi all,

I live with roommates in an apartment, and every now and then one roommate leaves and we get a new one. My current roommates are trustworthy, but I can't be sure of the future ones, and I want to get into hunting. I am thinking of getting a gun cabinet and storing it in my sibling's house. I would not share the key/combo to either the cabinet or trigger lock. Would this be legal? Would this be considered loaning a firearm?

I ask because I have found other threads with similar questions, but the discussions tend to sidetrack into questions about the specifics of whether the sibling/family member is legally allowed to own a firearm.

I will probably pay for a consult with a lawyer to get a clear answer either way, but would be nice to get an idea first.

TL;DR Can I store a firearm in a sibling's home?

Firearm would be in a locked gun cabinet, with a trigger/cable lock on it.

Family member would not have code/key for either.

Family member is not a felon or otherwise barred from owning a firearm.

Travel questions

I am flying out to California to buy my brother's truck. We plan on road tripping back to South Carolina. He will fly home. I know I can bring a handgun or two that I legally own in a TSA approved locked case. I plan on leaving the VP9 at my brother's place, where it will stay, and roadtrip with the PPQ .40. We are taking the I-40. Any problems with this plan?

Gun ignorance

I am a FFL out of my house and I had a guy who I just sold a shotgun and a handgun to call me at work. He tells me his wife isn’t happy about the shotgun cause it so big and he tells me it may cause him a divorce. I am thinking to myself keep the shotgun get rid of the wife. Lol. Mind you these are his first guns ever. This isn’t the ignorance part. I told the guy I would try to find a buyer for it so I am talking to a coworker about it who is into guns. Another female worker overheard our conversation and proceeded to tell me she will have to keep an eye on me now because she heard us talking and she felt the same way as the guys wife. I told her I sell guns and that I have sold to other coworkers. I don’t share with her who I have sold to. She tells me she needs there names so she can keep an eye on them as well. I asked her what she would do if her husband brought home a gun. She tells me she is divorced and she doesn’t even let her boys play with toy guns. I am thinking to myself I know why she is divorced. I just hope she is never in a situation where she needs to defend herself being a single mother and all. She said guns just make her nervous is all. Which is fine but to tell someone you have to keep an eye on them because they exercise their 2nd amendment writes is just crazy to me. She needs to be worried about real criminals and not me. Smdh
