They get paid a 40 hour work week on layoff, bud. They get laid off like this every other month. The media just working against the admin as always. Maybe one day you sheep will wake up...

13

u/bas_thc 1d ago

That's not true. I worked for Stellantis previously. During lay-off you get unemployment checks every two weeks. $390week paid biweekly in Michigan (Warren and Sterling). That's a vast difference for someone used to making +21$ and up along with plenty of overtime and Sundays is double time. Holiday Sunday is double time plus holiday pay if you get lucky enough to work on a holiday that lands on Sunday. Being laid off hurts people's pockets tremendously, especially when you don't know when you will return to work full-time.

u/Warhawk2052 1d ago

Forgot to mention unemployment isnt instant either

2

u/JacenSith 6h ago

You must not have worked there long, the union covers your pay on layoffs as well. You generally get around 70-80% of your normal pay.

1

u/Davesnotbeer 5h ago

Part timers don't get sub pay. Neither did "Temporary" part timers, for years. They also could not have been in the union.

u/Davesnotbeer 7h ago

I remember a friend telling me back in the '90s, that during their summer shutdown where they typically laid all of production off, that if you didn't volunteer to work over the shutdown, they would take a week of vacation away from you and use it, instead of laying you off.

That was when it was still Chrysler. It's only gotten worse since.

You're in the wrong subreddit to make lies about the auto industry.

JP Morgan is now saying there's a 60% chance of global recession. Buckle up y'all - and be sure to thank a magat.

Who else but Quagmire?

5

u/ArguementReferee 1d ago

That's actually better than I thought lol

-4

u/SpaceToaster 1d ago

Their % forecast has been bouncing around 50% since 2022.

12

u/syynapt1k 1d ago

It was 40% prior to Trump's tariffs. A 20% increase due to a single executive action is significant.

“Union workers for Trump is like saying slugs for salt”

9

u/BruhGamer548 1d ago

He literally joked about firing striking workers. It baffles me how people can vote for him after he disrespects them repeatedly

Worked for our non-resident Co-President.

For anybody reading this, when things get really tough, be sure to reach out to your Trump neighbor, I'm sure they'll share whatever they have left with the normal citizens

Unions wanted this remember!

8

u/DDS-PBS 23h ago

Pepperidge Farm remembers. Fuck Macomb County, I want to move so bad.

2

u/Davesnotbeer 5h ago edited 4h ago

I think that attitudes changed, when all of those "Loser" job shops, closed their doors in the Reagan and Bush Daddy years.

So many Reagan Republicans out there, that think that the union didn't get them everything they have. Sure buddy, the union didn't make that boat possible, you made all of that overtime possible by yourself.

All of those people that move from Warren to Macomb township or Shelby, forgot that all of their former neighbors that were in residential construction were stuck living in their old neighborhood because all of their jobs got hijacked by lower wage earners. But here they thought, "That won't happen to me, I'm in the Big 3".

u/Black_JalapenYo Born and Raised 20h ago

Not IBEW. Be clear

5

u/Warhawk2052 1d ago

They had already planned to layoff 1500 workers before this, now its just getting worse

3

u/DuhMagicStick 23h ago

Hoping all the Trump and nonvoters see this

10

u/SpaceToaster 1d ago

Stellantis has closed or relocated at least 4 plants from the Midwest in the last 10 years, and is planning to move Ram 1500 production to Mexico as well. If you think these companies care about American jobs, think again.

6

u/Virti86 13h ago

Well stellantis is an European company

2

u/RickyTheRickster 10h ago

FUCK, this fucks me so hard, although stellantis isn’t a major customer I’m sure this is happening to many other vehicle/government contractors and this makes me worried for my job bro

1

u/BruhGamer548 5h ago

It sucks so bad that my community relies on stellantis, and we will probably have one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation if they go through with this. Call your congressman if you haven't, even if they're republican

1

u/RickyTheRickster 5h ago

Man I fucking hate American politics, I’m at the point where I just fucking hate both parties

1

u/Tricepatina 4h ago

Especially if they're Republican!!! They need to know that the boss' ego trip isn't worth the cost to actual humans. It's time to do your job, and be a Public Servant!

2

u/Davesnotbeer 7h ago

Stellantis sounds like a drug that I'm supposed to ask my Dr. about.

He said it's unsafe for everyone.

2

u/ALWAYS_have_a_Plan_B 1d ago

BS. Stellantis was already in trouble. Now they have their scapegoat.

14

u/BruhGamer548 1d ago

Republican coping. Dow just had its worst day since march of 2020

3

u/DDS-PBS 23h ago

Yeah, but the market losses are because of Biden. Trump will solve all our problems day 1. Wait....

2

u/zebra0817 3h ago

The stock market has dropped this low 4 times. All 4 times were during Trump’s administration. This says a lot. It never happened during any other president.

0

u/Pitiful-MobileGamer 1d ago

They're not wrong. The tariffs are just the big shove that pushed them over the cliff.

They have the highest in stock inventory of all the major brands, some dealerships have 2 years of sales sitting in the lots.

Additionally they tried to wait out the steel and aluminum tariff, get an exemption, they delayed orders, they're running out of upstream, they have stuff in rail Yards in Mexico and Canada.

It's been a slow burn at Stellantis, long before November, long before January

🇹🇩 Here

1

u/browt026 14h ago

Hmmm...and guess who was the U.S. President in March 2020? D.J. TRump. The Dow saw it's worse day and so did 615 million people that died in the U.S from a Cov-id pandemic that D.J. TRump called "a bad flu". How soon we forget the 2020 Presidency of D.J. TRump's narcissistic, dumb ass, was one of the worst recessions in U.S. history. P.O.S. is now purposely destroying the U.S. economy and devaluing the U.S. dollar all around the world. D.J. and his cronies are pushing us to Digital Currency and soon the Beast System. So who's the scapegoat? Please! D.J. is the damned goat's head of satan incarnate.

I can't stand D.J. and J.D.'s politically fluid asses. Anything to fill their pockets. Dayum MAGATS and perceived power hungry POC's voting for D.J. lying ass (I don't know anything about Project 2025, then once elected, implements the Project 2025 MANDATE) have sent this country into a downward spiral. Now people are FAFO, being fired from their Fed jobs while D.J. inflicts tariffs and destroys allies abroad. P.O.S.

This isn't about RepublCONS and DEMONcrats...it's about uber rich oligarchs and everyone else. You can't take power from the powerless...but the powerless can control the power hungry, by withholding what the oligarchs want the most. MONEY.

Stellantis is a loser dumpster fire of a Company. The only good car they make is the Jeep Wrangler. They can’t even get people to buy their trash heaps.

Stellantis sold a total of 293,225 vehicles in January, February and March. That’s almost 40,000 fewer cars than the first quarter of 2024, and about 75,000 less cars than it sold during the start of 2023. Despite the recent declines, Jeff Kommor, head of U.S. sales, said there were some recent positive signs.

The kind of company That will get wiped out by tariffs

42

u/BombTheDodongos 2d ago

This person is actively rooting for economic collapse. Don’t even bother.

-66

u/Constant-Anteater-58 2d ago

Wouldn’t be a big loss for us. They’re not American or a Detroit company for that matter. They’re a French Multi Conglomerate.

53

u/Remote_Preference 2d ago

A lot of people in Michigan, both blue collar and white collar, work for Stellantis.

-62

u/Constant-Anteater-58 2d ago

Stellantis makes most of their cars over seas or in foreign countries and imports them from France and Italy. They’ve been talking about shutting down their US operations for years including selling the HQ in Auburn Hills.

50

u/Remote_Preference 2d ago

I'm sure that will make everyone getting laid off feel better when their homes get foreclosed on.

-40

u/Constant-Anteater-58 2d ago

History repeats itself. Focus on keeping your debts low and afford a house with the mortgage that can be paid by one persons income. Not two. Remember how we got into the 2008 recession? And back then, homes were dirt cheap. People over extend their credit and get fucked because they are irresponsible. Hard to not do that in this economy. But the smart ones cover their asses.

36

u/Sullen_And_Sordid East English Village 2d ago

While I agree that financial prudence is important—especially avoiding overextension—your argument oversimplifies the causes of the 2008 recession and ignores key economic realities today.

  1. 2008 Wasn’t Just About Irresponsibility The subprime mortgage crisis was driven by systemic issues: predatory lending, deregulation, and banks bundling toxic assets—not just individuals "overextending." Many responsible homeowners were also screwed by crashing home values and job losses.
  2. Today’s Economy ≠ 2008’s Economy Homes weren’t just "dirt cheap" in 2008; wages were higher relative to housing costs. Today, prices have skyrocketed due to underbuilding, corporate investors, and low inventory. Telling people to "buy on one income" ignores that median home prices now require ~40% of median income (vs. ~25% in 2000).
  3. Two-Income Necessity Single-income homeownership was feasible when houses cost 2–3x annual earnings. Now they’re 5–7x in many areas. The problem isn’t recklessness—it’s stagnant wages and inflated costs. Even frugal buyers often need dual incomes to qualify.
  4. Survivorship Bias "The smart ones cover their asses" assumes everyone has equal opportunity. Many "responsible" people are priced out entirely due to factors beyond their control (e.g., student debt, healthcare costs, regional disparities).

Bottom Line:
Yes, avoid reckless debt—but blaming individuals for systemic failures (then and now) misses the point. The game has changed, and pretending otherwise helps no one.

There’s no point. This is one of those people who doesn’t realize they were born on third base and think they’ve scored a run all on their own. So fucking common and disgusting.

You’re right, by the way, about all of it. But good luck explaining systemic racism and economic hardship to a dipshit who thinks they’re smart and everyone who ever experiences difficulty is stupid.

P.S. I was born on third base, too. At least I can recognize the advantages I had and work to even the playing field. This asshole will be crying about “Biden’s economy” and Obama for some reason when they lose their job and house, too.

36

u/Remote_Preference 2d ago

I don't think I can help you understand.

65

u/BombTheDodongos 2d ago

You can lead a conservative to water, but you can’t make them stop being a dumb cunt.

18

u/LPinTheD East English Village 1d ago

Well said.

2

u/Rigsson 1d ago

This is entirely false. The majority of their models sold in North America are made in North America. They import Alfa Romeo (if they still even do that, haven't seen any in a while), Fiat, and the Jeep Renegade. Everything else is made in the US, Mexico, and Canada.

0

u/Constant-Anteater-58 1d ago

Maybe you should google before you spread false lies. Good lord. This is the reason why Reddit is full of fake information.

Jeep renegade is manufactured in Italy. It’s a rebadged fiat 500.

Manufacturer Jeep[a] Production 2014–present Model years 2015–2023 (US & Canada) 2015–present (Mexico) Assembly Italy: Melfi, Potenza (SATA)[1] Brazil: Goiana, Pernambuco[2] China: Guangzhou (GAC FCA)[3]

Meanwhile ford is offering discounts and GM is increasing production and adding jobs. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

58

u/senkaichi 1d ago

Ford has an inventory problem. They’ve been offering sizable discounts for a while and offering financing on new vehicles at 2-3% — I know of someone who got 12k off a new vehicle from them this past month before the tariffs. Idk why they killed the fusion, the 2020 models are still one of the best looking sedans on the road. I think their line up right now is kinda fucked tbh.

35

u/Choice_Job6979 1d ago

Where are you getting that info about GM? I work in a plant and layoffs are coming. The increased production is so they can build a stockpile before sending us home. And adding jobs??? Where?

-34

u/BlondieBtch117 1d ago edited 1d ago

I highly disagree with what you're saying. I could never ever stand the Fusion after they changed it and made it look exactly like every other plane looking oval sedan on the road. Also, the Bronco could not be a cooler car. I think Ford is lacking in more diverse models that are hip and trendy, but getting rid of cars when nobody is buying boring sedans anymore and are mostly only driving SUVs , is not a bad call to make. There's only one purpose of having a car today, to own a luxury or sports car. What is the point of Ford producing any other car in today's time? The Bronco was definitely a step in the right direction though đŸ‘đŸŒ. If they want to stay afloat they need to focus on the younger buyer the way GM has done. Who the hell do they think is their market at this point? The baby boomer generation is not the people buying cars anymore and they need to get with the program or be left in the dust.

2

u/senkaichi 1d ago

The Bronco is a cool car, but it’s priced out of a sizable chunk of the market and I don’t think the bronco sport has the same appeal. The fusion had its own identity and I think there is still room for sedans in the market. A 4-door mustang would be a good alternative.

There's only one purpose of having a car today, to own a luxury or sports car

I can’t get behind this statement at all. Probably the 2 single worst car categories to buy from.

-29

u/Sea_Zookeepergame486 1d ago

You mean the companies that shipped their processes other places for cheaper labor are finally coming back home and trying to be competitive after giving up on the small car market, and not even making vehicles for the other countries they shipped the labor to. Winning for sure. To be clear we never should have allowed these American companies to do this in the first place.

7

u/drewarts 1d ago

Ford only has like 3 vehicles built outside the US (for the US market)
