Moving to Scotland from Scotland next month

Hi Scaatland!

So, after a lot of soul-searching, ancestry.com results, and a can of sugar free IRNBRU extra I decided to move to Scotland, from Scotland! I just can't take Starmer anymore. I didn't vote for him, and he's ruining Cumbernauld's reputation. Not everybody here is a gun loving bible bashing people hating miserable cunt. Some are only one or two of those things.

I'm considering moving into a croft on Saracen St where my clan ancestors lived, and reconnect with the tarmac.

Do you have some tips about how I can get a visa, adapt quickly, and keep wild haggises away since I'm terrified of animals?

There are many Scotland's, make sure you get one with the right exit visa.

‘The postman always rings twice’ …. (Famous movie a long time ago) This could be a case for Scotland Yard.

Ah, the No True Scotland fallacy back at it again.

I would recommend a move to Glasscow as my ancestors have a castle there.

But Edenberg has so much more culture. Also, everyone has English accents which makes it so much easier to understand them!

Ahh yes, my ancestors once stormed Castle Milk on the orders of Lord Buckfast

For blending in I recommend an Irn Bru and a Pizza crunch from the chippy. If the locals see you enjoying our food then they’ll be more receptive.

Forgot the deep fried heroin

If you're in Edinburgh then heroin is mixed with vinegar and poured over all fried foods.

This is a great idea, farming is a very easy job, you'll pick it up quickly if you've watched a few episodes of outlander and like things like nature and cats.

Aye right, good luck trying to be a farmer without expensive designer wellies and the ability to hold a shotgun VERY nonchalantly.

Scotian here.

Make sure to get your saltire themed clothing in now so that we know to roll out the red carpet treatment

Also, don't bother researching visas and legally entering the country, just rock up it's fine!

Hope to see you soon for a pint at the local flat roof pub, remember and walk in and loudly proclaim "och aye the noo"

The "och aye the noo" is the most important part. We love that.

The plural of haggis is haggi

18

u/momentopolarii 15h ago

Correct. At the Scottish National Gallery, you will find Landseer's iconic work, 'The Adoration of the Haggi'.

3

u/The_300_goats 16h ago

Wrong. It's hagges. "Haggi" is the plural of haggus

I don't think OP is bothered about pedantry. Leave him be.

Best way to deter the haggiai is to keep unicorns in your ancestral castle grounds

6

u/TeikaDunmora 14h ago

I breed special haggiseseses on my wee island - they're vegetarian and vegan breeds, wonderful animal/plant hybrids that contain no meat! They have tartan markings in shades of green and are as gentle as a daisy.

My brother in law actually looks like that, and it's not a hat.

That's the shite version they sell to tourists, the genuine ones have a wee button that you press and it plays "Scotland the Brave".

u/Fickle-Public1972 16h ago

Good luck and remember the tea cakes are good

3

u/DonSneck 16h ago

I think he's thinking of Jason Scotland.

3

u/Magicmix5555 13h ago

Don’t forget to pack your cludgie.

3

u/RubDue9412 10h ago

Why not just move to Scotland much less trouble, no Visa required.

3

u/jaggy_bunnet cairpet 5h ago

Scotland is Scotland's closest neighbour and we have plenty of shared history and culture, so you shouldn't have much trouble adjusting if you move from Scotland to Scotland. Just remember not to go on and on about how Scottish you are just because you're from Scotland - being Scottish doesn't magically make you Scottish.

And 'croft' is pronounced 'croft', not 'croft'.

Mate I read that with you putting on the accent, well done.

Definitely imagine you are Connor McGregor and immortal. It’s the only way to go.

Well, that's a sure way to reconnect with the tarmac

Howdy, pardner.

I just can't take Starmer anymore.

Nor did most people, only those in his constituency could have voted for him.

ruining Cumbernauld's reputation

Not the Jewel of Scotland‽ Clutched pearls

a gun loving bible bashing

Oh shit, I've been getting that the wrong way round for years. Explains the strange looks I guess.

reconnect with the tarmac

Ah, the joys of a good night out.

I'm terrified of animals?

And you still want to move to Saracen Street?

Just throwing a thought out there but for people that are frustrated with Americans who use the forum to say they, “ didn’t vote for Trump” and want to move here or love Scotland, how is it different than when we didn’t vote for Brexit but it happened anyways. It would be like someone from California who didn’t vote for Trump compared to a Scot who didn’t vote for Brexit. Brexit not only impacted us but has severely impacted the EU ( and global trading), more so than these incoming tariffs I assume?

I know it’s a lot hearing it constantly on top of the news but there were a host of other countries who thought the same of us at that time. I just think we could show some empathy. How many years did we have a Tory Westminster? Some votes and voices just don’t get heard sadly.

As far as the ancestry thing, do we condemn Scots of Pakistani decent from identifying as Pakistani, no matter how far back the lineage is? Or Indian or Italian? Some people take an interest in their ancestors and their traditions get passed down and their families like to see where their people migrated from. It’s a sense of pride and the tourism industry contributes billions to our economy, jobs and whisky industry, which is driven in part by people giving a damn about their family history.

I just think everyone looks for negatives today rather than where we have common ground and how to actually make positive change .

Did people from this sub go to French or German or Spanish subs and start going on about how they were going to move there because of Brexit? Because that’s the comparison here.

Plus it’s also about the fact that they do absolutely no research and come in asking stupid questions about things that are easy to search for. Or it’s some fleeting thought they’ve had and in actuality they aren’t serious about it.

1

u/edelweiss891 5h ago

I don’t honestly know about the subs as I wasn’t on here then but I’m sure it happened to an extent. I do know it happened in day to day real world experiences. I get some people come off wrong and should absolutely do better I’m just trying to show we have people here that do the same and we just need to loosen up a bit and look for the good in people sometimes.

I for sure went to the Spanish sub, mentioned the fact I'm 1/256th Spanish (on my maternal grans side), and asked if I could please move there. I had already tried my Irish roots (1/50th), but it turned out I was northern Irish, so that was no use.
