I’m currently developing a web app designed to help students study more effectively. The idea came from my own frustration juggling multiple tools (Notion, Obsidian, Anki, Todoist, etc.) and never really feeling like any of them were truly made for students.

Right now, the app includes things like:

• A note-taking system similar to Obsidian (Markdown + backlinking + graph view)
• AI-generated quizzes from your notes to help you review
• A minimal, visual flashcard system
• A built-in Pomodoro timer
• A to-do list and planner
• Gamification (achievements, daily streaks, XP)

The idea is to have everything in one clean, focused, and motivating space, without trying to do too much.

But I realize that I’m building from my own experience, and I’d love to hear from other students:

I use the LLMs (chatgpt/grok/gemini etc.) to read/research on topics and these have been quite helpful, however many people have started depending on these solely as tutor, hence providing one simple example to help understand the issue.

What went wrong: Grok was unable to differentiate between traceroute (Linux/Mac) and tracert (Windows) and gave incorrect answer. Traceroute command sends UDP probe packets by default and there is option to change them into ICMP packets, while tracert (windows) send ICMP echo request packets.

Any study tips for a quiz that’s mostly based on readings? The format is identification and true or false. The prof tends to pick really specific details—sometimes the things you least expect. For T/F, the questions are extra tricky too… like the first part sounds true, but it turns out false at the end.

I’ve got my bachelor’s exam coming up in the end of May and it’s based on 25 subjects from my curriculum. I started studying in January, however I’m looking for alternative methods to memorize such a large amount of information. Some of the subjects overlap on topics which is nice, but of course there’s also just a lot of factual information that needs to be remembered no matter what.

But whenever I try to study I feel a choking sensation in my chest and like something is stopping me from studying. So I am preparing for a very important exam which I will be taking in next 3 months. It's my second attempt, as I had already failed my first one.

The thing is I honestly don't understand why it's so hard for me to study now. I have a good support system, smart mentors and all the time in the world. But I am just not able to sit and get it all done. This exam is the most important thing I need to do for my career. I try to keep myself motivated and active. I read positive and inspiring stories. I honestly am trying really hard to just do this, and I have so much regret for not being able to clear my first attempt. This has never happened before.

I don't know what to do. Has anyone else gone through this experience, and was able to break this pattern? Please share any tips or suggestions that you might have.

Rereading material, rewriting notes is inefficient for studying. Doing practice tests on your material and notes is a proven way to study better through active recall.

I'm a nursing student and recently I feel kind of negative in terms of studying.

Reasons: 1. I studied really hard for two major tests. (Studied 3-4 days before, studied for 10-12 hrs a day with barely any breaks, made handwritten flashcards (A LOT), focused on the hard topics first, kept reading even while eating, waking up early just to study, did a lot of writing in my notebooks, utilized game learning apps like gizmo and quizizz, memorized A LOT).

I felt satisfied and I answered my tests like I know all the answers, and yet I did not pass even one of the major tests I took.

1. My friends who barely studied for those tests got higher scores than me (tho only higher by 1-5 points) I'm happy for them but I feel bad for myself who TRIED at least.

2. I feel desperate that I ask those who have higher scores what their study methods are. I also ask my friends and most of them have similar answers which I find time consuming (rewriting, concept maps) and one suggested teaching myself or others (but I find that hard).

Now I just feel tired when I study and even depressed at some point, thinking that even if I tried hard, I still get low grades. Before I though maybe I wasn't really trying and if I did I would have really high scores, then I started trying, but guess what? It didn't work out for me as well.

I feel like it might be caused by my attention span, focus, and comprehension. I am good at memorizing but whenever we have quizzes/exams, I take a very long time to comprehend the questions (we are time pressured) and I can only answer questions that I have memorized the answers to, as well as questions with the keywords I memorized.

Any tips/advice for a struggling learner like me?

im 17 and applying for uni next year. i live in this place where high school ends in grade 11 and basically you go to another kind of school for 2 years so grade 12 and 13 to get another diploma, i’ll just call it college to simplify everything . the grades you got in high school don’t matter when you get into college which typically lasts 2 years so 4 semesters, only the three of the four semesters matter for uni application. i went into a health science program so calculus, chem, bio, physics and everything along those lines plus the mandatory courses like philosophy and other mandatory humanities courses. i was an overachiever in high school. i was involved in extracurriculars, got above average grades. i got into a good college, one a lot of my classmates got rejected from. im now in my second semester and am unmotivated, can’t remember the last time i studied and my grades are slipping. in my first semester i was studying but my grades sucked as well, nothing catastrophic i mean i wasn’t failing or anything but getting 70s when i was a 90s student is kind of a shock. my r score (sort of like a gpa but adapted to this schooling system and is calculated differently and takes in a bunch of stuff into consideration) is pretty decent. but as i mentioned this semester i really just dont want to do anything. i went to a different college than all my friends(they all went to the same one) i haven’t made a single friend, i still have a friend or two from high school here which is nice theyre just not my usual group, i can’t remember the last time i saw my friends. im alone in all my classes. when i get stuck in a subject i have no one to help me cause im not that close w the people in my school and my other friends and i dont talk as much since i dont see them anymore. whenever they ask to hang out i cant go cause i have to study. but i dont study. i dont want to. im tired all the time. my parents (mainly my dad) want me to work with them in the future which means i have to bust my ass off at school if i want to get a good r score and a good score in the casper test. but to be honest thats not what i want to do in the future but i think it would kill me to tell my dad that, i dont want to disappoint him. i want to get back on track with school, i know im not at a point of no return i still have like 60-70% of my courses to get my grades up i just need help. (also if anyone knows anything that works wonders for calculus 2 id really appreciate it) anyways i need help getting motivated or study tips at least or something to get me through the semester.
