hello guys! i been interested in synthesis lately, and god it looks complex lol. i see digital synths like serum, use wavetable+subtractive synthesis. i have the feeling it would be better to learn a synth that only uses 1 kind of synthesis at first, no? idk im really uneducated in that stuff lol, im more interested in subtractive or modular (but for the sounds i want im looking forward into subtractive more) so im considering subtractive. is it a good decision? i’m sticking with something like arturia pigments for now, but in the future im looking to upgrading, i heard the korg minilogue xd is really nice

Hello everyone, is it possible to switch from classic play to Song Mode? Because at the moment every time I do Shift Play during playback to switch to Song Mode it cuts everything. THANKS!!

I don’t sell a lot of synth stuff, but I have a TR-77 on eBay with no reserve and it only has a $1 bid haha.
It’s ending tonight so I’m wondering if anyone has advice for promoting eBay synth sales?
I’d hate for it to sell for a dollar, haha.

Heyo! I've noticed that when I send MIDI to my super 6 via USB from my laptop, a high frequency whine is introduced to the signal. My recording setup is like this:
The laptop, interface and super 6 are all powered from a power strip running to the same outlet. Any hot tips on how to sort this? :)

Which synth would pair together well with the matriarch?
I‘m not looking for something specific but i currently use the matriarch in my setup, mostly its running a sequence and i look for something which would fit for something like leads or chord parts

I just recently started playing in a band and I have a Yamaha p225 that I have been using. But my issue is I want to be able to get more sounds out of it to better fit some of the music we are playing (Rhodes and Hammond organ for example).
I know that I can use the p225 as a MIDI controller, but I don't know how I would be able to get these sounds out of it and also have it work well in a live environment.
Any tips would be appreciated.

I recently played the game "Undertale Yellow" In a certain area of the game a song began playing i really liked. In the sons they used a certain synth that i want to use myself too. I sadly don't really know how to recreate it.
I use these Roland Cloud VST's with FL Studio 2024:
D-50, JD-800, JUNO-106, JUNO-60, JUNO-60 CHORUS, JUPITER-4, JUPITER-8, JV-1080, JX-3P, PROMARS, SH-101, SH-2, SRX BRASS, SRX DANCE TRAX, SRX ELECTRIC PIANO, SRX PIANO 1 & 2, SRX STRINGS, SRX STUDIO,, SRX WORLD, SYSTEM-1, SYSTEM-100, SYSTEM-8, TB-303, TR-606, TR-727, TR-808, TR, 909, XV-5080
Can i recreate that synth with these VST's or others?
Song name: "Meltdown" From the Undertale Yellow soundtrack

I love the modularity of the unit, but living in an RV, I don't have space to setup the large unit along with DAC and laptop.
Id like something I can pickup and fiddle with while watching Netflix on the couch rather than having to dedicated complete focus to make space for the activity. (Hint: I dont)
37 key, onboard DAC, wife would love onboard sound, lots of knobs and sliders.
What would you guys suggest for this usecase? Probably gonna look for a trade on FB market.

So I've only ever used my Synths with guitar amps(I know) and headphones but I want to get a cheap set of powered speakers for my Synth for when I don't want to use headphones and I don't have an Amp anymore.
Would either of these work and if so what would I need besides the speakers and my synth(Take-5) ?

I'm working on a darkwave/synth pop/ dream pop style project. It's going to have some reasonably extensive soundscapes. Expansive. 80's style leads. Lots of Major 9th arpeggios. Pedal point. Some nods to shoegaze (there will be heavy guitar). But dark. Y'know... and I'm using the following:
Prophet V2 16 voice (Lead, pads)
Ensoniq ESQ-1. (Pads, atmosphere, sound design)
Behringer Model D (Basslines)
I have a JU-06A that I'm not sure if I should keep.
Keep or sell?
Does anyone reckon it has some sort of sonic ability that I need to retain if I want to lean into an 80's ish sound? Or can I get there essily with the other three? I want to pare down as much as possible because unlike all of you, I want to actually make music 🤣. (Kidding, sorta).
Thanks.

Long
I am a long-time FL Studio user and years ago I bought a used M-Audio Oxygen 61 MK3 as my first "large" Midi keyboard. This keyboard is almost 12 years old and I was OK with it.
I just used the Keyboard beeing creative when finding chords and melodies, but actually never used it to record the MIDI notes itself (i am used to click the midi notes manually once found). It also has no pads that i could have used,
I never used the faders and rarely the mod/pitch wheel, since they were never mapped correctly by default and i was always lazy to manually map it.
I recently bought the Arturia V Collection and watched tutorials where most users heavily rely on their hardware knobs and faders and I am not sure if i would use them more when they would work better/easier. But generally I am open for new workflows to discover.
However, the last days i tried first time to record midi with my keyboard and noticed, that random midi signals are sent from my controller, which are also recorded unwantedly along the keys. I think some or at least one of the knobs are done.
Therefore, I am in search of a replacement, but the market will not make it easy to me.
Also: I always knew my 12 years old Oxygen could never be compared to a pianists keyboard or stage piano , but i did not found it that worse or at least ok to play a bit around with it. But in some reviews i found that they describe the keys as looking solid but plays absolutely terribly which is a no go for any keyboarder ... they even compared it to something from a toy store ...
So maybe, my expectations are a bit unbalanced regarding the keys and any other keyboard might be better than this (?)
TLDR;
My thoughts:
I definetely want at least 61 normal sized keys, since sometimes i just use it to play music.
I am unsure to go for an Arturia Keyboard, since i own the Arturia V Collection now which seems to be very nice integrated with Arturia Keyboards (?)
I had a look at Arturias Keylab Essential 61, with its price i would be absolutely fine with.
I had a look at the Arturias Keylab 61 which is above about my budget, but might be considered if anyone say, that everything cheaper isn't really better than what i have at the moment.
Is the Arturia Keylab worth 549 EUR vs the Essential version with 229 EUR? What about the keyboard itself, is there a huge difference between those?
Or should i go for an Novation FLKey since its good integrated with FL? Or something completely different?
What would you focus on?
Thanks!

I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy for Microcosm for synthesizer FX use but this combo really sold me. Does anyone have the Chroma Console and how does it compare with the Microcosm for use with synths? That might be next on my list.

Hey everyone! First-time poster here, hope it’s okay to ask for help with some sounds I’ve been obsessed with.
I’m absolutely in love with this album from a Portuguese band called First Breath After Coma. The album is called NU (2019), and the production and arrangements just blow me away.
I’m particularly in love with the synth, keyboard, and guitar sounds — they create this really dramatic, dreamy, and nostalgic world that I find incredibly inspiring. I’d love to know how to recreate some of these sounds, or at least understand how they were made. I suspect a lot of them are software-based, but I’m not even sure what’s coming from hardware, what’s sampled, or what’s processed vocals, etc. If anyone can help break down even just one or two of them — or point me in the right direction / tell how would you do it — I’d be incredibly grateful! You can be as vague or as technical as you want, but the more technical, the better!
I’m not a pro producer at all — i've really only scratched the surface on synths and sound design. So if any of these are super obvious, I hope you don’t mind me asking! I'm using Logic Pro X and I mainly only use stock plugins, Spitfire LABS and Arturia's AnalogLab.
Here’s a list of the songs and timestamps of the sounds I’m curious about:
(there's also a video of them playing some of these songs on youtube that gives some hints on the gear they use, but the sounds are not quite what you hear in the studio version)
🎵 Please Don’t Leave
🎵 Change
🎵 Feathers and Wax
🎵 Uneasy
🎵 Heavy
Thanks in advance for any help or insights! Super excited to learn a little and hopefully recreate some of this magic myself!

From what I see, the top left seems to be a juno 106, but I'm not sure about the rest. The right side looks like a Roland Super JV. Does anyone know what the other gear is??
His sounds and tracks are truly amazing!!

Hi everyone!
Like the title says, I'm starting my synth journey. Would like to hear some advice from everyone.
After doing my research and trying (and failing) with some DAW setups, I have found out that I would like to have a ready to play setup. DAWless seems to be the way to go for me. I have tried to make work a setup with DAW, some VSTs and a midi controller, but i was unable to make it work in a way I would enjoy it. This was specially frustrating after months of watching tutorials and not getting close to making something sound like I wanted or having fun.
I think, what would be best for me would be a DAWless setup that can grow. Reading some posts I have seen that a full setup would look something like a digital synth, a couple of synth engines, and a drum machine. Seems that starting with a digital synth would be a good way to start.
With all of this said, which one would be a good digital synth to start with? Have been looking into the microfreak and the monologue. They seem very interesting. But so have all the other tutorial videos injave seen and I have never been able to replicate what they are doing. Really appreciate your help starting this journey :)

Would the chain order be po -> hydra -> hx, since there is only one input to the hx? or would I be able to route it into the return knob?
Just wanting some little drums for jamming - not really looking for anything more complex. Something that keeps beat in the background but is not ran through a computer. Trying to make a hardware setup and just want something bare minimum for the drums. Wanna make sure it’s possible with these PO devices before buying one.

I understand the Mantis is usually substantially more expensive than something like the Minilogue XD, but a local retailer has the Mantis very substantially discounted to approx. the same price ($1000AUD; ~$600USD including sales tax). That deep discount has me thinking of semi-impulse-buying one. Even at this price however, I can't help but think that the Mantis is more limited. It can do true duophonic and four-note paraphonic, and has some cool stereo width stuff available, but i still can't help but think, something like a Minilogue XD has: - Proper four-note polyphony - More effects - A more versatile/extensible digital oscillator
So even at the discounted price, what would have people choosing the Mantis over a another ~$600USD synth? Full sized keys and aftertouch are nice...anything else? Is it just more characterful?
If it makes any difference, the music I've been obsessed with lately is "Does it look like I'm here?" by Emeralds and I've been considering synths as diverse as the Grandmother (which is a bit out of my price range...not sure if i can swallow my scruples and buy the Behringer clone) or the JX-08 for bitimbrality and more polyphony.
Thanks so much for your help!

So I've had a Super 6 for a while now and basically I love it, it just sounds fantastic, especially in binaural mode.
However, there is a strange behavior from my point of view in the way the voices react in binaural mode with a certain filter envelope setting. Normally, when I play like in the video, I press the pedal for each chord so that I have time to change the position of my hands. I then play a new chord while the pedal is still presses and release it shortly afterwards. Basically like you would play on a piano. So there is a minimal overlap, which unfortunately leads to a very strange behavior of the filter in binaural mode: some notes seem to have a different filter curve, the chord is no longer processed as a whole by the filter, but is torn apart. In 12-voice mode everything is fine, as far as I know. In the video I‘m using the 12 voice mode first and then the binaural 6-voice mode. I think you can clearly hear the difference. I’m not changing anything in the way I‘m playing.
I can't explain this, I've already posted this in the UDO audio forum, but nobody there has a clue or nobody answers. Maybe there is a problem with my understanding of how the voice assignment works in general, but I don't know this behavior from other synths. I‘m grateful for any insight on this, because I‘m really frustrated and considering selling it, which would be a pity because love the sound. Thanks!
