software based groovebox?

I realize this might be self-defeating, but is there a software based groovebox for windows similar to circuit tracks, something simple and immediate as opposed to the full DAW experience.

Audio cable from Korg Minilogue XD to Push 3. Which one?

Hello, I want to connect an audio cable from the Korg Minilogue XD to my Push 3. The various video instructions are confusing me. My Korg XD output is R + L/mono Push 3 in 1 + 2. Do I need to connect two separate cables? If there are two separate cables, are they different? What should I look out for? Or a Y cable with the two connectors on the Korg and the other one on the Push? It would be great if someone could send me a link where I can see exactly what the cables look like. Thanks for your help.

Studio updates--another synth, less clutter

I've added the UDO Super Gemini since my last post and tried to open things up a bit. That's harder to see with the wide-angle lens shots, but it feels more roomy. Did I get shamed into trying better studio monitors by other Redditors? Yes. Yes I did. Were they right? Yes.... dammit.

Synths that let you draw Waveforms (not wavetables)

I'm looking for anything that lets you draw longer waveforms not just one one cycle like serum and the other wavetable drawers the only one I've found so far is audacity but its not great thanks?

what cables do i need ??

so i’m quite new to playing on synths and am aware i need to buy an audio interface, i’m planning on getting the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen but am kinda unsure on whether i need a 1/4 TR or a TRS cable and if i need to get 2 or 1. I’m connecting it to my CAT behringer analog synth.

The mighty kick/bassdrum: who has the fattest/baddest/nastiest?

Just spend the better part of my day rearranging my gear (yup, the vid is the end result, everything powers up, midi and audio to be done) and ended up wasting an hour and a half with playing around with the RD-9's kick.

My main conclusions are that the Behringer pedals are rather noisy and that I'll probably always end up using samples layered on the top of the RD-9's kick.

But enough about me, what's your baddest kick? And how did you create it?

People were pretty jazzed about u/trovort ‘s set up he posted last week so I wanted to share a little clip from the open mic last Friday for those of you wondering how it went! I put on these open mics for electronic musicians (mostly ambient, but were pretty liberal with the definition) every month here in Philly, so if you’re local stop by! It’s at a different place each time so follow @thelowpass on Instagram to stay tuned!

Any of ya'll using preamp pedals with your synths live? Looking for suggestions.

I want to start using a synth live with a band I play bass in. I don't want to add a keyboard amp to load in but would like still like to have that added control of a volume, eq and saturation/overdrive in pedal form, having an XLR out would he great so I don't have to bring a DI as well. It doesn't seem like there's a ton of keyboard specific ones, would a bass preamp pedal be the best option? What're ya'll using?

Need help choosing a sequencer

Hello everyone, I would like to buy the most basic sequencer possible, in fact I would just like to be able to send a series of chords from a sequencer that I can modulate with my synthesizer. The Digitakt sequencer is perfect but too expensive and I would like something even simpler! Here is a simple but polyphonic sequencer with memory! THANKS!!

How will the key action work in organ, synth, ep, piano music playing - remembering this is a synth?

Passive pedal to change patch

Hi guys. Quick noob question: can you suggest me a good pedal to change patches? Something that is gonna last. I see a lot of cheap ones and I’m scared they gonna die soon. Also no batteries needed please (like the boss ones). They have to be momentary, right? Thank you! Edit: I mean just a “next patch” pedal, no midi

OGD: Microfreak! Tricks?

Post image
11 Upvotes

My set up now! Love the microfreak! The first synth I've had that I want to be on init patch every time I use it! What synth is like that for you? I was constantly buying or using "preset players" with some tweaking until I got this. Now I love building patches from the ground up!

My microfreak tips:

You can squeeze an "arp" out of the pitch mod with the lfo set to square wave. Set mod amount to tune the arp to a close enough interval. Positive or negative for pitch up or down. Kind of cool if the lfo sync is offset from arp but in time.

I like using the pressure mod to affect things like arp octave and decay. Kind of cool to be able to polyphonically control with the pressure keyboard. The pressure amount is really tricky to dial in though. For me it doesn't have much range until I really tweak with it and figure out a playing style.

You can use it to power a breadboard or low current pedal in a pinch ( have no clue if this would damage it, but I don't see how it would ). I've hooked up the gate out to a breadboard to test small circuits before no problem. Have also used the other cv outs for more traditional uses on homemade Synths on breadboards. Pretty handy to have clock out, note, gate, and mod cv outs. Kind of a mini modular sequencer really. With midi ins and outs and synth engine and a kind of weird, unique keyed that's polyphonic. Any modular folks use it in your rack?

Per set up, I've been jamming on the guitar with a drum machine quite a bit and want to flesh out loops and stuff with more gear. So I'm toying around with that as pictured ( other stuff is inspirational ).

Cheers!

Tron: Ares, NIN vs Daft Punk

I loved Tron Legacy. I love and still listen to the album as well as its remixes. It's helped me introduce my son to Daft Punk, as well as electronic music. Its special for a lot of reasons. I just saw the trailer for Tron: Ares. It looks good from the limited bits in that trailer.

I had to look into who was composing the soundtrack and Im really intrigued with NIN as the composer. Glad it isnt "Trent Reznor", but NIN on the wiki page about the film. I trust that more with their collective experience.

Im interested from this particular crowds experience, what are your thoughts on NIN taking the helm on a film that can be made or completely broken by it's soundtrack? The aesthetic appears to lend itself to the grittier sound that NIN is absolutely expert in, so Im personally really excited to see how it comes together.

Edit:

I am now aware that NIN is broadly recognized as primarily being Trent Reznor alone, I come from a time where that wasn’t true but the documented history shows otherwise and my memory failed here. Did not mean to offend fans, just not something I follow closely.

I am also starting to work through Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross whole scoring history, there’s a lot there, so I’m learning.

Bass Station 2 will only use program 100 when changing programs on Polyend play…

Post image

So when I go midi in to the BS2 straight from the RD-8 (Polyend Play connects to MIDI in on RD-8) I can change the program seamlessly without issue.

Once I put the TD-3 in the MIDI chain I suddenly only can keep getting program 100. I’ve changed the MIDI channels all around and nothing seems to work. Any idea why this is happening?

Is the fatar keyboard on the new super 6 worth it?

Buying first poly synth and have settled on the super 6

Have seen they have an upgrade with a 49 key fatar keyboard with velocity and after touch

I know after touch is on the original - from peoples experience would the upgrade be worth the extra £300?

I will be using for recording at home but also gigging - the new ones is an extra 500g in weight

Thanks

Audio clipping when recording

Hi everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my setup, but I'm not sure which route to take before dropping a bunch of money. I currently have 7 synths connected to my UMC1820 through the line inputs. In theory, the signal should be strong enough, but I’m still dealing with clipping and distortion—even with the gain set low. And that’s where the dilemma begins. The UMC1820 is pretty budget-friendly, so I’m wondering: is it time to invest in a better interface with high-quality preamps, or would I be better off getting an external preamp to run all my synths through first? I'm a bit of a hardware junkie, but I want to make sure I’m not spending unnecessarily. At the end of the day, my main goal is clean, clear signal. Thanks in advance!

New Prophet 10 rev 4 owner - have some questions if any other owners can chime in

  1. The black keys on my Prophet 10 are significantly harder to push down than the white. Anyone experience this? Doesn’t feel this way on some of my other synths

  2. Getting a distorted? Or white noise when playing patches with the cutoff low. Especially in the headphones.

If anyone can help out with some advice I’d really appreciate it!

Which budget Sampler+Groovbox - alternative to TE 133 KO II

I have purchased Korg Wavestate II and thought that the next step would be to buy a sampler/groovbox to record songs, have some drums, and enjoy jamming. I would like to play on Wavestate and pass it to the sampler and then have some drums there, add more sounds etc. (I am new to this so sorry for sound confusing).

I thought about TE 133 KO II as my priorities:

- Simple to use and having fun in the process (no Akai MPC One+ and Roland SP 404 mkII - too complex for me)

- Great design

- Up to $500

But I am not sure I will like the noisy buttons and the limitations it has (memory etc.) so I am looking something similar but without these 2 issues.

So after watching YT and reading posts here I have the following shortlist:

  1. Novation Circuit Rhythm

  2. Elektron Model:Samples - I have read it has many limitations

  3. Korg Electribe

What do you recon?

New gear selection

I want some to sequence my gear on the go. Something simple but intuitive. I was looking at the korg sq64, beat stepbro, but also trackers like Polyend and m8.

I need to be able to voice chords, make melodies, and program rhythms but with external gear.

I’m new to synths. I’m working with the Yamaha reface dx/cs and sp404mk2. I want to sequence these and arrange them together to make Rnb and hip hop tracks.
