For a few months, we ran a thread where we asked users what cameras they were currently shooting on. There's a lot of good info in there!
Search the subreddit!
/r/videography has over a decade of information, though Reddit doesn’t make searching easy.
A useful trick that typically gets better results than Reddit’s own search bar is to add the following to a Google search:

We have a very active Discord:

You’ll usually get a quicker answer asking there than here!

Comment in this post with your requirements.
We strongly recommend you include at least the following details:
- Budget
- Specify your local currency!
- If your budget is under $200 USD, you're unlikely to get any useful recommendations other than 'use your phone!'
- What are you planning on using it for?
- Feel free to link to some videos showing content similar to what you want to shoot
- How long do you need to record for?
- Recording time is a limiting factor for many smaller cameras
- What equipment do you already have?
- What software do you intend to edit your videos in?
Things we don't allow:
The following question formats are not allowed - they don't typically generate useful advice or discussion:
"x vs y comparisons"
"What is the best x?"

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Assistance with Audio gear
Want to upgrade video interview audio quality. I normally record straight to camera with a Deity shotgun or rode wireless (sometimes with lav). I have a Zoom F1.
Do field recorders automatically record at a higher quality? Do I upgrade field recorder and shotgun mic, or just one or the other? Sub $500 total would be great for both.
Thank you!!

Technical/Equipment Help and Information SONY DCR-TRV50 not displaying recordings on TV... Can anybody help me?
This 3.5mm to RCA cable I bought from Shopee was just delivered to me today, so I hooked it up to my TV, and I was confused because the TV wasn't displaying what my camcorder was recording. I have no idea why it's like that. Can anybody please help me? I don't know if the cable is the issue here, or if it's my camera, or if it's my TV.
Here's the video I took to show you that It's not working: https://imgur.com/a/ueZZvvO

Hiring / Job Posting Looking for a video editor for my Minecraft server!
I have big plans for a Minecraft server and I’m looking for someone who can make a trailer and small videos/clips of in-game footage that I give them (montages, memes, etc). The server itself will be active for multiple months, so I need someone who can stick around for quite awhile.
I would like someone with a sense of humor and experience with meme-making, because the majority of the videos I have envisioned will be memes for the server.
Payment will be discussed 1 on 1. This is my first time hiring an editior, so I’m not even sure what would be fair 😁 if you’re interested, shoot me a DM! [North America, USD]

Technical/Equipment Help and Information teleprompter
Ciao!
Grazie!

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Easy Rigs: Knock Offs vs Brand Name
Howdy everyone, I wanted to see if people have experience using brand name easy rigs vs kock off ones. Does anything think they're worth the price difference? When looking into them, and ad for a proaim came up. It's like 1/4 of the price of an easy rig, and half that of any used ones I've seen in my area.
My use case is for a church live stream set up. It's to pull weight off of a bmp4k that has a teradek, v mount, monitor, and 70-200. It weighs like 15 lbs so it's getting heavy to hold for long periods, but also my shots are too shaky, but i still want the mobility/hand held look from it.
Any recommendations would be great!

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? terrible quality on the Sony ZV - E10
Hey guys, I am brand new to DSLR style cameras, and can't for the life of me get a clean video of my gaming setup. My IPhone 14 pro max gets a better shot than this, heres my camera settings. ISO 100, recording in 1080p, 60fps, 1/60 apeture, f3.5. Nothing that I change seems to give a clear image, I am at a loss on what to do.
PS. please understand I am brand new to cameras and I know it may be a simple fix, but I can't seem to figure it out. and yes I have watched multiple tutorials on YouTube for this camera but nothing seems to help.
Thanks for any help.

Technical/Equipment Help and Information How to best film in a flat concert / theatre hall ?
Quite a small venue, I'm shooting a local band performance and I'll have a srationary 2nd camera placed at the side of the audience.
But I'm placing the main camera (45-200mm) at the back of the hall behind the audience, but it's all flat (no balcony or raised area) apart from the stage itself. There will be tables made available to stand on, but I'm unsure how secure myself and tripod would be on these.
Am I better to simply place the tripod on the ground behind the seated crowd and raise it higher than eye level. Testing it out, things look quite good when zoomed in near 200mm or a little below. Im trying minimise audience heads as much as possible. Any tips would be appreciated.

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? Slow Shutter Effect on Osmo Pocket 3 possible?
I just bought an Osmo Pocket 3 and I’m trying to get some creative shots. Has anyone found a way to create a Slow Shutter Effect on the Pocket 3? I tried going into manual mode and the lowest Shutter Speed I could find was 1/25. Is there a way to go even lower? From what I’ve read you need about 1/10 for the Slow Shutter Effect.

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Should I upgrade from a6000 to zve10 or invest the money to new lenses?
Just entered the videography industry, I currently wield a Sony A6000 with Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 with a gimbal as my shooting set-up. Currently experiencing trouble with the overheating since I live in a very humid country. I researched a bit and found the ZV-E10 would be the best upgrade. But with that money I can also invest on a wide lens and a telephoto for more shooting applications. So should I upgrade my camera or invest on new lenses for flexibility? pls help

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? Heavy lens distortion in famous TV series?
Watching Shogun TV series. Overall quality looks good, but what's the thing with lens distortion? When filming indoor scenes - the entire movie looks this way. The lenses are having heavy focus breathing when focusing between far and near elements, the lines are not straight. Is that a special idea they wanted to achieve, or....?

Discussion / Other What do you do with random misc gear?
I've been brutally downsizing my gear, and during this process I've noticed just how many little misc items have built up. The lens support that comes with gimbals, straps, dividers for bags, tripod plates, tripod spiked feet, additional lens caps, storage bags, lens cloths! etc. Items that are in perfectly usable condition but have not been used since I purchased the "parent" item. Since starting this process I now find it annoying all the extras some gear comes with that I have no choice about (action cameras especially).
So during my current mindset shift I've been wondering what others do with these items. Do you throw them out because you're not planning to sell the parent item anyway? Let them build up and find a storage solution for them because you never know when it will come in handy?

Behind the Scenes Am I the only one that finds the trend of cutting between a talking head looking at camera to that same talking head not looking at camera?
This is primarily YouTube videos, but I’m also seeing it on things like Dateline. The talking head is supposedly talking to the viewer and is talking to the camera then a cut as the talking head continues but from a different angle, though they continue facing the other camera. I find this very jarring. It’s like you’re talking to me, but now you’re not talking to me, or you only kind of are.
I’m not talking about the interview style where the person on screen is talking to an unseen interviewer. There is no other person, real or imagined, in this scenario.
I get wanting a variety of angles to break up the visual monotony of a single angle, but there have been solutions for this for over 100 years. What makes this a desirable angle? What is the artistic or utilitarian motivation for shooting and editing like this?
Maybe I’m just old school, but unless you’re intending to call attention to the editing as a creative choice, the flow of images, to me, should feel seamless. This doesn’t feel seemless nor does it feel creative, although that is subjective of course. It just keeps pulling me out of the flow of the narrative.
It just feels like something some YouTuber did, then another one, and then it’s suddenly the thing to do, like the trend of holding a tiny microphone in your hand in situations where you would typically either use a lav or have a microphone out of frame.
I don’t know. Maybe I just need to mind my own business and go back to yelling at kids to get off my lawn. 🤷♂️

Technical/Equipment Help and Information Food Videography LIGHTING - HELP!
Hi all,
Would really appreciate some advice as I'm VERY new to lighting. I do some videography at the company I work on food/recipe videos. It's a new company and up until now we've been able to get away with natural lighting, but as the year has gone on the lighting conditions are changing (sun has gone behind a building/more overcast days means not enough light coming in) and it's time to upgrade to an artificial light source.
For my own personal kit I'm going to eventually buy something like an Aputure Amaran 150C, but I'm still a bit far off having the money for that. My work is happy to pay for a light, but an LED RGB light doesn't make sense for this context and I'd be making them splash out unnecessary money for RGB.
So two questions...
- Is it better to get a daylight or bi-colour LED for food videography? I don't really have knowledge on why you would choose one over the other when specifically talking about FOOD videography. obviously I know that bi-color you can adjust the warm/cool colour outpu, but is this necessary for food where it just needs to be as 'natural' as possible? does bi-colour mean I can balance better on overcast days? Or is a balanced daylight LED generally just better in all contexts to achieve a natural daylight look?
- Is the Amaran 60sd enough power or would I need to invest in a 100sd minimum? (the setup is next to a very large window, but unfortunately on overcast days/this time of year the big window still isn't enough to properly light the food/people cooking)
Any help is really appreciated!

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Recommendations for a video focused hybrid shooter
So I’m more focused on video (recaps, mini docs, commercial work) but I also do a lot of photography (portrait, sport/athletics). A lot of my work is faster paced, so a good rolling shutter is helpful!
I also like to be minimal/carry less gear, while still bringing what is necessary to create the quality I/the client needs.
With that, what would you do/invest in?
I was thinking an FX3/A7iv combo, or just a canon r5 mark ii….i don’t have any experience with canon, but I think they have great offerings right now, and I always love the images I see from them.
I don’t care about swapping systems, and at some point I think I would invest in an fx6 or c80, depending on which route I go.
Thank you for any input you have!

Behind the Scenes Monopod Dilemma - Sirui SVM vs. iFootage Cobra 3 Strike vs. YC Onion Pinata Pro - Need Your Wisdom!
I'm currently in the market for a new monopod and I've narrowed it down to three really interesting options: the Sirui SVM, the iFootage Cobra 3 Strike, and the YC Onion Pinata Pro.
They all seem to offer some unique advantages, and honestly, I'm having a tough time deciding which one would be the best fit for my needs. I'm looking for a reliable and versatile monopod that can handle single filmer run+gun documentary.
I'd be incredibly grateful if anyone who has experience with any of these monopods could share their insights! Thanks!

Feedback / I made this! Feedback on project demo video, video doesn't look saturated/ poorly exposed potentially
Need feed back on a video I'm currently editing, it is simply a project demo video, I've tried to correct the colors and exposures but silver components, ie the joints and ball, are not saturated or overexposed im not quite sure what the issue is but it doesn't look right looking for some feedback.

Technical/Equipment Help and Information External microphone for Olympus FE-45
Like the title says, I have an old Olympus FE-45 digital camera. I love this camera and have had it for probably 18 years now! I adore the nostalgia of the photo quality and have been wanting to start recording videos with it! It has an internal microphone that works decently well but it simply won't cut it if there's any form of wind or if I'm too far from the camera. It only has one port, and no Bluetooth Does anyone know of any external mic's that are compatible with this camera? Preferably something that has a large range so I can set the camera down and and be a bit away from it but still have my voice picked up! Thank you so much I'm excited to hear your ideas
