Hi everyone!

It's my boyfriend's birthday soon, and I want to surprise him with a special whisky gift. I asked him what he likes, and he mentioned that he enjoys whiskies with a strong smoky character and peat. Based on that, I've narrowed it down to a few options, but I'm not entirely sure which one would be the best fit for him. Here are the whiskies I've found onlinethat I think he might enjoy: Ardbeg 10; Caol Ila 12; Lagavulin 8; Laphroaig 10; Glenfiddich 15

I didn't get into too many details about what else he likes, so I was wondering if any of you could suggest which one of these would be the best choice based on the flavor profile he enjoys, or if there are other whiskies in this category that I should consider.

!!!!Also, I’m not very familiar with whisky terminology and abbreviations, so I would really appreciate if you could keep it simple!

If possible, I would appreciate some quick responses as I’m in a bit of a hurry!

A coworker from Colorado has been telling me about the Tin Cup 14 year and how much he likes it. I’ve added that bottle to my list to look for, but in doing so I came across the 10 year. It’s not bad at all.

Removing double double and Jack from the blind, tonight we revisit Makers cask strength, Weller special reserve and New Riff 8. They’ve been open for a week and sipped at. Tonight’s blind brought New Riff to the top spot. Followed by Weller and Makers.

Had the old turkey and one 70th already. Everything else is this weekend

Has anyone attended in recent years?

I'm sure I'd get my share in of the tastings to cover the entry fee, but more interested if anyone can provide feedback on the bottle shop for purchasing bottles? Eg prices, what's available, higher proofs?

Our bourbon selections over here are quite average so would be worth attending if I could pick up some bottles I can't get through the regular sources.

I joined this sub towards the end of 2024 and around that time I recall a post of someone who made a post of all the Whiskeys everyone reviewed in 2024. Does anyone else remember this or am I crazy? And if so, is there someone who could link the post??

Celebrating a job well done with a pour of Gold. I build this display out of a piece of leftover cherry from my bourbon cabinet build. This one matches much better.

I remembered I had bought a couple bottles of Macallan Cask Strength from the early to mid 2000s. I brought one bottle to a party around that time and finding it far too strong for me, so I packed the other bottle away in the back of my collection and forgot about it until now.

Both bottles were stored in their boxes under the same condition but I notice a loss in volume in the Cask Strength. I’m not planning on opening either any time soon so I parafilmed both bottles and tuck them away again. Maybe it will help with any more loss, maybe it won’t, but it can’t hurt.

I ended up Parafilming my entire unopened collection as well since I’ve cut down on my drinking significantly. I’m hoping to pass the collection to my kids one day. Not a lot but my favorites from back in the day.

Bardstown and Rock Hill Farms made me fall in love with Whiskey. Just got back from a trip to many distilleries in Kentucky.

Got a 1977 decanter from Stitzel Weller. Still full of whiskey at the thrift store and ngl I’m tempted

I went for one of my cheaper bourbons and it’s not bad for the price. It is definitely worth another buy for the shelf.

Blantons, Taylor, Stagg, Eagle Rare, Mid winters dram, Buffalo trace all on the shelves at just about every liqour store I go to in the last month here in Texas. They are still "allocated" and going for secondary in most places, but it seems like the rare bottles weren't so rare after all.

The 18 was a gift. The Cask Strength was a lucky find on my end.

FedEx came with a special package today. Really excited about this one!

Went in for the Jack 10, but was able to grab the last Jack 12 at MSRP. They would only let me purchase one or the other, but I definitely wasn’t disappointed. Cheers and enjoy the Final Four weekend 🥃🏀.
