I know it’s a rompler, but it’s so expansive! The Micro Q I posted last week keeps crashing so I’m using this till I can update the Waldorf.

Love the iconic sounds this made in the 80s and got one for a good price. Needs some TLC but looking forward to getting her back to tip top shape!

Anyone know good discussion-focussed communities/forums/etc. for synths?

Hey friends. Don’t want this to be an argument post but you know, it’s not a particular secret that this sub is very gear-acquisition focussed, and the discussion about what comes after the purchase leaves a bit to be desired.

I was just wondering if anyone had the heads up on active communities which focus on real discussion about what we actually do with these machines? Can be music creation based communities which just have active synth nerd subsections or something as well. Not stressed about some level of gear recs/show and tell, just don’t want it to be the main thing.

Just want a place where I can really learn and improve from involved discussion and feedback, be inspired by others’ work to try new things, feel a part of a community, etc. Subreddits, discords, internet forums, whatever works really.

Let me know! Thanks guys

Moog Matriarch - Gritty Semi Modular Companion

Hello dear Synth Family

I am looking for a gritty Semi Modular Companion for my Moog Matriarch. Budget round about 500€

Synths I am currently looking at:

Dreadbox Nyx / Erebus Behringer K2 MK2 (is now Eurorack compatible) PWM Malevolent Arturia Minibrute

I like the Gritty Sound of Justice and Carpenter Brute.

What do you think could suite the Matriarch well? Do you have any other suggestions? :)

I also have Fuzz / Distortion Pedals (e.g. From Retro Mechanical Labs)

Hey guys, we just got this guy serviced and it's working beautifully. However none of us seem to remember exactly how to use it, mainly how to changes the patches... we couldn't find any manual online, apart from the service one. Anyone familiar with it that could help out? Thanks!

OB6 and Microcosm are a fantastic combination.

I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy for Microcosm for synthesizer FX use but this combo really sold me. Does anyone have the Chroma Console and how does it compare with the Microcosm for use with synths? That might be next on my list.

Will Hydrasynth be "too much" for me?

Hello. Old guy from the UK here. Used to have a few synths back in the 80s/90s but then life got in the way. Have messed about with VSTs in Reaper for the last few years but had an epiphany when I recently got a Yamaha CK-88 stage keys for piano, e-piano and organ sounds. Despite having thus stuff covered in Komplete, I'm loving having a hardware keyboard rather than arsing about with a midi controller a d 10,000 options (I know you don't have to use them but I find myself messing about more than playing). Used to own a JP8000 but even with the sliders, didn't find myself making too many patches, although I didn't really know much about synths then. Still have my old Novation Nova desktop which sounds OK but again, I never created too many sounds for it. The odd thing is that the one synth I love making patches on is NI Massive (original, not X). It's so easy to modulate things by just dragging an envelope to wavetable position, cutoff or whatever. I know you can't get the power and complexity of Massive in a hardware unit (or at least not on my small budget) but I love the sounds of the Hydrasynth and reviews praise the interface. Just wondering if it will be too much synth for my idiot brain? Also tempted by a virtual analog but it'd have to be something cheap, like the Modal Cobalt or possibly a used Novation Peak. I know they're a totally different thing but I might have a better chance of understanding something based on tradional subtraction synthesis. Sorry for the long winded first post. Just wanted to connect and say hello. Please go easy on me if I'm sounding like a fool.

Looking for a mixer with min. 4 individual outputs

Hello.
Would love to hear some feedback and recommendations regarding mixers.
I'm basically looking for one that has 4 outs, post EQ and that can be configured for a multi-channel set up (so, not the ones where the alternative outs are the ones muted from the main mix).
Would prefer to avoid a huge unit, and I could stretch the budget to 650 if it's a really great option.
So far, I've found that the Model 12 could do what I'm looking for - If I understand correctly its AUX1-2 configuration (?).
Any tips welcome!
Thanks!

Jdxi menus and tone parameters - drum part partial (1-4) on/off

just going through the menus whilst midi monitoring and controller spinning and button bashing, and noticed no change to any value in menu when tone edit menu is active, and sequencer steps (LEDs 5-8) are used for each drum part (c2-c#4 iirc).

Is this correct?

I thought there may be a boolean (on or off) for 'partial status', or maybe a 0-127 change on a level or something...

Thanks!

Understating Korg Wavestate multisample programming

I'm in the process of assessing the Korg Wavestate (using the plug-in demo at the moment) and have a basic understanding of the process to get samples into the Korg Wavestate system using Korg's Sample Builder app, but I've noticed that whilst it supports different key ranges for different samples, it doesn't support different velocities.

However, I've looked at some of the factory performances / programs in the Wavestate, in particular the Basic Vel Switch Piano, and noticed this uses a technique where it is set up as a "Wave Sequence" but instead of using the Sample Lane in any timed kind of way, the different velocities of the piano sample are held as discrete samples and somehow (haven't worked this out yet), different triggering velocities trigger the different corresponding velocity sample in the Sample lane. So I'm thinking, the Wavestate CAN support velocity switching multisample as as well as discrete key range switching sample instruments.

Can anyone confirm if this is the technique I would employ if I were to create my own multisample instrument? i.e.

  1. Use sample builder to create a multisample (with discrete samples) at various ranges across the keys, but all at one fixed velocity
  2. Then create another multisample in the same way but at a different velocity
  3. Keep doing this until I have all the different velocities I want
  4. Construct the instrument in the Wavestate using a similar technique to the Basic Velocity Switch Piano program, spreading out my different velocity multisamples in the Sample lane and triggering the relevant one depending on the velocity of the key pressed?

Has anyone done this and if so how effective is it and what key noticeable limitations are there compared to a traditional multisample builder system / app?

Best style of Keyboard Stand??

Hello, I have a standard X shaped, single (not double) keyboard stand. But today I found someone selling one called "C-Structure" https://www.amazon.com.au/Keyboard-Reinforced-C-Structure-Electronic-Sturdy/dp/B0CY2PJRVS and I realized that this would help me sit closer, more forward, which I think I would enjoy. I am also curious about Z and H shaped stands.

What do you all think are the best keyboard stands and why do you prefer them?
