Nikon Zf Firmware 2.0 released!

The nice thing is that we know it's possible at least, so it should come soon to Z6iii users.

Thoughts on blurring faces of protesters at demonstrations.
 in  r/photography  2d ago

Assuming you're in the US, remember that people have no expectation of privacy while in public.

I'm not a photojournalist

Same. I'm just a random citizen with a camera who enjoys taking pictures. So, my POV will be with respect to that perspective.

I don't want to put people in harm

The way I see it, a person who chooses to attend a protest or rally -- esp. the ones that were organized in advance, like yesterday's Hands Off rally -- should acknowledge that there may be risks associated with participating. That's why you hear people say things like to turn off their phones or disable their phone's biometrics authentication system, or wear a mask, or to know their rights in case they get detained.

Thus, if someone chooses to attend a protest or rally, they should absolutely expect to be photographed. In fact, I would be very surprised if anyone chose to go to a rally or protest with hundreds, if not thousands, of other people, with the expectation that they won't be photographed.

If someone doesn't want their face to be revealed, they can wear a mask/costume/face covering (which I've seen plenty of yesterday and at previous rallies) or simply just don't attend. If someone chooses not to take any precautions and attends a protest or rally, that's on them.

That said, at least for me, if it's obvious that a person doesn't want to be photographed (e.g., they look away when you point a camera at them or cover their face with a sign), then I'll respect their wishes and move on.

When I do post my photos of protests/rallies, I only blur out faces of children/kids.

I post remarkably sparingly on Reddit these days, but I wanted to share these photos from the "Hands Off" and Palestine protest today:

Really loved the composition of your photos, especially the beach ball and the Gaza photos.

"Hands Off!" Rally Sign Compilation & Photos of the Rally
 in  r/washingtondc  3d ago

Looks like Reddit's compression did affect the quality pretty significantly.

Photos from today's Hands Off! Rally, which was held from 12:00pm ET to 3:30pm ET, with a pre-rally occurring from 11:30am ET to 12:00pm ET.

Turnout was pretty significant today; I'd say there was roughly same number of people at the Washington Monument today compared to last Saturday (peak bloom of the cherry blossoms). Despite having full bars of signal, data was barely working at the Washington Monument.

Unlike the previous posts I've made here, I also included a compilation of most of the rally signs I got a picture of. Hopefully, Reddit's compression isn't too harsh. Otherwise, I'll link the compilation externally.

taking math 100 & 140 together
 in  r/UCSD  4d ago

I only took 100A, but I know plenty of people who took 100A and 140A together when I was taking 100A (and I know those same people also took the B and C classes together). It's doable, but going to be a lot of work.

You should probably see how the other three classes look, difficulty- and time-wise, and see if you can handle taking all five classes concurrently.

Alternatively, 140A should be offered in the Winter quarter, so if you don't plan on taking 140C, that's an option.

Nikon Z5II Announced
 in  r/Nikon  5d ago

As someone else mentioned — I find it a bit odd that this camera has dedicated bird AF at release but the Z6iii (and I think Zf) didn't.

 in  r/washingtondc  24d ago

As the other person said, this occurred today, starting by the Senate Fountain and then going to the Hall of the States building, and then finally going to the CNN building at First Street.

Note that this event was pretty much led by the same guy who led yesterday's rally. He's also leading another rally tomorrow.

The Blood Moon at the Washington Monument
 in  r/Nikon  24d ago

Taken with the Nikon Z6iii + Tamron Z 150-500mm.

Unfortunately, I slightly missed the focus on the moon -- perhaps expected, since it was kind of hard to manual focus with all the clouds/overcast.

Now that you bring that up, I'll probably make a post with a picture of every sign I saw at the rallies I photographed recently

Another commenter said about 300-400 people. Unsure if that's true but that roughly checks out.

The Blood Moon at the Washington Monument (March 14, 2025)
 in  r/washingtondc  24d ago

My pictures were taken between 2:30am and 3:30am, and I think I got there an hour earlier and left an hour after, so around 1:30am-4:30am.

I was there for about 2-3 hours. In the 1.5 hours where the moon became red, there were some pockets of time (maybe 10-45 seconds every so often) when the clouds gave away and you could see the moon

Nikon Z6III Random glitch line on photo?
 in  r/Nikon  25d ago

Sorry for bringing up a dead post -- had this issue happen today while I was out taking pictures of a rally. Same settings (20fps e-shutter) and roughly same statistic (1 out of 1300).

Did you end up finding out what the issue is, or did you see this issue again?

What K&F bag should i get ?
 in  r/AskPhotography  26d ago

I have this bag as well — it can hold my Z6iii with attached 24-120 f/4 Z lens on its side, and either a 14-24mm f/2.8 Z lens or a power bank (UGREEN 20000mAh/130W, the one with a screen), and two spare batteries, some microfiber cloth, and a small dust blower.

For your kit — I imagine you'll have plenty of room after you put all your stuff in.

Trump Voters… How’s that portfolio?
 in  r/LeopardsAteMyFace  29d ago

You know Elon and Trump were made for each other when their respective companies are dropping at the same rate (TSLA @ -44.99% YTD, DJT @ -41.58% YTD).

Here's the original event poster, which has a list of organizations that helped organize this event:

When I was approached by someone who was advertising this rally, they gave me a QR code to this page: https://linktr.ee/ukrainedefendersusa -- perhaps you can start there.

I learned about the Standing Up for Science rally on this subreddit a week ago, and planned accordingly. At that rally, someone gave me a flyer for this rally. But, I also saw this rally mentioned a few times on this subreddit.

In my previous post (pictures of the Standing Up for Science rally), there's some discussion on where you can find future protests and rallies; see this comment, where the subcomments have some good information.

Tourists, newcomers, locals, and old heads: casual questions thread for March 2025
 in  r/washingtondc  Mar 09 '25

With the lunar eclipse that's going to happen later this week (overnight March 13 to March 14), will there be any issue (security or safety wise) if I'm roaming around the National Mall/US Capitol area late at night (think 12am-3am) with a camera and telephoto lens (i.e., very big lens)?

Hoping to get some interesting compositions (assuming weather permitting) and wanted to see if there might be any problems or if I should plan on going elsewhere.
