Is an Alfa Romeo Giulia QV a douchey car for a 26M to drive?

Saved up cash for it, love it because it’s a real “drivers car”, and I think it looks absolutely stunningly beautiful. I’ll be honest, I’m worried about being perceived as a douche driving this around. My friends are mostly not in a financial position to afford something like this and I’m afraid it’ll alien people. Tbf it’s not an M3 and I’m in LA so there’s way younger people driving way douchier cars. Would love your insight.

Hooray! A Toyota!

I'm not really looking for advice, just want to share my happy news. I've been driving beaters my whole life, but I'm finally springing for something nice. Tomorrow I'll be signing on a 2021 Toyota RAV4 (XLE Premium Sport), 47k miles-- for $20,000. She has a bit of hail damage, but it doesn't bother me! I'm pumped and ready to run it another 150,000+ miles.

Best car for under 10k? New to the market.

Like the title said. I’ll be moving to the Midwest from Europe for my first job after grad school (so money is a bit tight right now) and I’ll need a car to commute both to my job and between the different offices the company has throughout the city. So because of that, I’ll need something under 10k, reliable, fuel efficient and fairly cheap to insure (24M). I’m a bit of a car enthusiast but I understand that a cooler car may not be on the table right now. I also don’t know if I would need an AWD car in order to not die when it snows (no snow where I’m from).

From what I’ve seen, in case I need an AWD car, I’d be looking at some sort of Subaru (Forester, Legacy) or maybe a Buick Regal. From the other similar posts in this sub, I could also consider one of the Toyota sedans or maybe a Honda civic or fit.

I’d really appreciate any recommendations you guys might have.

Buying a car soon?! Which one should I get

Hi everyone! I am moving to Georgia in July from Africa. I unfortunately do not have a choice but to buy a car, despite the whole tarrif situation. I am a single woman (26), no kids. What car would be best for me?

I have looked online a little bit and the Mazda CX-5 and Hyundai Tucson seem to stand out the most. But I would love everyone’s opinions since I am coming from a very different car market.

I’d like to keep my monthly payments between $300-$500, and am open to both used and new.

Thank you :)

I’ll admit Econ isn’t my area of expertise. Help w/ car decision.

I need to buy a car. I’ve seen many say the used car market isn’t influenced by tariffs. Obviously they’re not gonna put tariffs on used cars.

I’m just wondering, if tariffs increase new car prices, and nobody wants to buy (new) right now, won’t that mean there will be less used cars to buy, since people will be trading them in for new cars? And wouldn’t the used price go up then?

I totaled my car, and I am frozen on if I should replace it now or wait and see. I planned to buy a base model car new around 30-35,000$, or buy a cheaper 1-2 year old car with low miles.

I realize this might be a strange question for this sub, but I need help with car buying, just for a different reason than usual. I don’t want to make a several thousand dollar mistake.

And for those that want to call me ignorant for not understanding the tariff situation very well, that’s ok. I’m a big girl, you can call me whatever makes you feel better.

Thanks in advance!

Is this a good time to buy a new car?

I’ve seen mixed opinions on whether the tariffs will have a significant impact on the car market, so I wanted to see if I could get some feedback based on my situation. I have very limited knowledge about cars or the car market.

I drive a 2011 Kia Soul that hasn’t had significant issues, but it has around 170,000 miles and has started to have issues over the past couple years. The engine light stays on and anytime I have had a diagnostics test I get mixed information on what needs to be fixed/how much it would cost. A few years ago I spent nearly $600 to get it fixed, only for the check engine light to turn back on a week later. Anytime I get an oil change the light turns off for a few days before it returns. I live in the Midwest and with the winter temperatures my car has sometimes had difficulty starting on the coldest days. The battery has also completely died multiple times in the winter, which has led to me having to replace the battery a twice over the past 4-5 years. It also does not do well in slick conditions. Additionally, my steering wheel continues to shake after multiple realignments.

My Kia was an upgrade from my first ever car, a 2004 ford explorer that broke down every other time I drove it. As such, I’ve never really had the opportunity to purchase a car that I want, as I bought both (without financial assistance) cars in my teens.

After this past winter, I decided I would get a new car before winter 2025 as I want something that is more dependable in winter conditions. I also want to get a car that I truly enjoy driving. With the tariffs possibly affecting the car market, would it be better for me to purchase a car sooner this year rather than later this year?

The car I’m considering is a 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid AWD.

Any opinions or suggestions are welcome as I truly don’t know much about cars and don’t have anyone in my life who is knowledgeable about cars. Thank you!

Teen getting first car.

What would be decent for a first car? I have some saved money to put down and finance the rest, I'm just at a loss for what would be a good choice. It needs to be reliable, preferably good gas mileage as well because I'm going to be travelling a lot.

What EV company car to pick?

We need to make the switch to EV and we have these 4 options.

Audi A6 advance (base model, 0 addons except Paint)

Audi Q6 advance (base model, 0 addons except Paint)

Polestar 2 Dual Motor Long Range Performance

BYD Sealion 7 - Excellence

We only test drove the BYD because it's the brand I knew the least about and probably has the most complete offer.

Thoughts?

I really want a Tacoma or 4Runner, but

I really want a Tacoma or 4Runner in Orange County California, but I feel like I’m paying an extreme premium for them nowadays. Im fine with anything less than 150k miles, preferably less than 10 years old.

Is there a good place I can start looking for private party offers? If not Toyota, what are some other reliable cars that I can look for that are more budget friendly.

How much do you avoid "problem cars"?

I'm looking for a used convertible and I'm starting to feel a bit paranoid.

Mercedes SLK seems great, but many I find in my price bracket has the M272 with balance shaft issues.

Then you've got your Audi's, with the 2.0 TFSI that has oil and cam chain issues.

MGF has strange and expensive shocks.

Mustang V8 has thermostat issues.

Boxster has the IMS bearing.

It feels like whatever car I look into they all have some fatal flaw that could get super expensive... How do you handle that?

Just keep looking for the perfect car or risk it and just buy whatever you want?

Is a 2011 Mercedes E250 CGI Coupe (W207) a smart buy today?

Upvotes

Hey guys, I'm seriously considering a 2011 Mercedes-Benz E250 CGI Coupe (W207) with the 1.8L turbocharged M271 Evo petrol engine with 190.000 km. It looks clean, has great spec (memory seats, sunroof, etc.), and I'm very tempted. Before making a decision, l'd love to hear from anyone who owns or has owned one of these: • Is the M271 Evo engine reliable long-term? • Any issues with timing chain, turbo, electronics, etc.? • Is it expensive to maintain or fairly reasonable? • What should I be checking mechanically before buying? • Would you recommend it for daily use in 2024-2025? This specific car is really clean and the mileage is unusually low for its age, so it feels like a rare opportunity - but I want to go in with open eyes. Any thoughts or advice would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Best second/fun car for <$7,000

Hi friends. Just wanted to see what you all would suggest. I have been scouring FB Marketplace for months, trying to figure out which secondary car I want. I just cannot decide but I need to make a decision, so I'm looking for some outside opinions.

Here's my criteria:

Must be less than $7k. I do not want to finance, but I do want to go ahead and finally buy something before I'm totally priced out thanks to the current political/economic factors. Cost to own is also a factor.

I want either AWD or RWD, but I am technically still open to the idea of FWD.

Must be a car, wagon, or hatch. No trucks, SUVs, vans, or CUVs. Prefer more than 2 seats.

I like older cars but do value safety, so something with side airbags is ideal.

Must come in manual transmission (that's the fun part).

I have to like how it looks. This is subjective of course but if you think it looks good hopefully I do too.

Relatively reliable. I treat my other car ('06 Dodge Grand Caravan) pretty well. I want the same energy back from the car. My van understands this.

I have been looking at mostly Subarus (safety, AWD) and Mazdas (reliable, affordable) but want some fresh ideas. And please don't tell me to get a Corolla S 😅

Oh and Idgaf about touchscreens in my car.

Thanks in advance. I hope this will be fun! Give me some weird ones!

Should i get a fkin tesla? I live in san diego.

I drive a 2012 bmw 528i xdrive 125k miles. No real issues just did some minor fixes. It runs well but don’t wanna put anymore money into it. Trying to get rid of it before the real issues start. Got offered a shitty 4k deal from KBB. I’m a complete amateur in the car buying world, so i feel like everyone’s trying to scam me. Looking to trade it in and put 1-2k to finance a decent car that I’ll keep for the next 5-7 years. I was looking at the mustang eco boost or a tesla model 3. Open to recommendations. I can afford to pay 400 a month to finance it. I’m stuck between getting a cool used(under 35k miles) sports car like the stang or a brz or a 240i coupe mpackage or a tessy ?? Helppp i need this baby gonee it’s been good to me but I need something newer that’ll still get the ladies and hold up for the next 7 years or so. Market is at a turning point and decisions aren’t my forte. I drive less than 10k miles yearly.

Help me decide: 2020 Mitsubishi Space Star vs. 2015 Toyota Yaris (both ~40K km, similar price)

Hi everyone! I am based on europe, I’m deciding between two used cars (both ~€12K) and would love your input on reliability, running costs, and overall value.

Car 1: 2020 Mitsubishi Space Star

  • HP: 100
  • Transmission: Automatic
  • Mileage: ~29000 km
  • Price: ~€12k
  • Year: 2020

Car 2: 2015 Toyota Yaris

  • HP: 80
  • Transmission: 6-speed manual
  • Mileage: ~32000 km
  • Price: ~€12k
  • Year: 2015

My priorities: Low maintenance costs, reliability, and decent city/highway driving. mainly driving within city most of the time and long trip (+300km) once a month. it my first car with no much experience in the car types/models .. etc , still learning really appreciate your help!

  • Any known issues with these models/years?
  • Other alternatives I should consider (budget: ~€13K)?

Looking to trade in my 2007 Jeep Wrangler Sahara 4D. My Jeep and Non-Jeep options..

Title states the important part, now my options. All are 2022 or newer with less than 30k mileage.

2022/23 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 2023/25 Jeep Compass Latitude 2022 Mazda CX-30 Carbon 2024 Dodge Hornet R/T

I've been doing research and so far test driven the Cherokee and Mazda, and was pretty impressed by the Mazda and felt the Cherokee handled pretty well (yes i realize they're a completely different type of vehicle than the Wrangler).

I'm looking to downsize slightly, but still need to be able to get up to the summit in the winter or take it down a dirt road from time to time due to PNW hobbies.

MPG is a bit of a factor, I drive 30+ miles 1 way to work, most of it is hwy. The Wrangler is killing me in gas plus it has some mechanical issues from sitting for a few years with minimal care and servicing, and change in environment, before I bought it off my parents, but that individual jeep was nostalgic for me so I did what I could to keep it running but it's becoming too much for me at this point.

Thanks for any suggestions, input or advice ahead of time.

2020+ 4x4 Manual Trans

I am currently winding down my research phase before I zero in on a vehicle, but I wanted to get an outside opinion before I do.

Have I narrowed it down to my best option or am I missing something I haven’t considered yet?

Needs:

-2020 or newer -Manual transmission -4x4 - 4Hi and 4Low not awd -Enough space in the back seat for a rear facing car seat with a 6ft tall occupant in the front seat -Light towing capability (>/= 3500lbs)

Currently my best contender is the Toyota Tacoma, but my S/O isn’t the biggest fan of the cab space. It’s tolerable, but offers less interior space that her current vehicle.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Car recommendations

Looking to buy a car. Sedan or hatchback ideally. Something that won’t give me too many headaches either. Coming from my dad’s Raptor, I wanted to see if there were any quick and fun options maybe even with some room to mod. I'm in college, but I’m making good money from a job I’m working. I’d be willing to spend ~$40K new or used. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Need help finding a supercharged or nice sounding suv

My first hand me down car was a 1999 dodge durango and i loved it so Ive been pretty set on getting a R/T now that my boys are getting older. Recently tho ive been seeing a few srt hellcats around town and that whines got me hooked but i cant afford it anytime soon so ive been trying to find other suvs or bigger cars that are supercharged/can be/or just sound nice that i can afford or make decent payments on. I plan on getting a new car towards the end of this year but ill make something work if the price is right bc the sooner the better since i drive a 2014 mazda 3 hatch. It feels faster than it is and gets the job done but i def need more room overall asap. Im just looking for a decent sized suv or bigger car that is fast, reliable, sounds nice, and i can afford. Any car recommendations and or modification advice is greatly appreciated 🤝

Opinion of the Chevrolet Cruze 2009 - 2010

Hello, so I'm looking to buy my first car and I've come across two listings for the Chevrolet Cruze 2009-2010 (one for each) with about 100,000 kms for 5500k euros, which is an average to low price for used cars where I'm from (Greece). Are they reliable based on personal experience? I've heard that they burn a lot of oil and I wanted to double check it.

Thanks!
