Is an Alfa Romeo Giulia QV a douchey car for a 26M to drive?

Saved up cash for it, love it because it’s a real “drivers car”, and I think it looks absolutely stunningly beautiful. I’ll be honest, I’m worried about being perceived as a douche driving this around. My friends are mostly not in a financial position to afford something like this and I’m afraid it’ll alien people. Tbf it’s not an M3 and I’m in LA so there’s way younger people driving way douchier cars. Would love your insight.

thinking of pulling the trigger on a camaro..

Alright, I currently have it on a two day test drive. It is a 2010 camaro 2ss manual, 65k miles for 20k. Now for the good: It drives really smooth, clutch feels great, sounds really good. Exterior is super clean for being a 2010, not even any swirlies from the automatic car wash. No rust anywhere. Its had 3 previous owners, but each only drove it around 4-5k miles a year. Brought it to a mechanic that did a one hour PPI on it, said the car was perfect, save for a chip on the mirror, and that whoever previously owned it had taken really good care of it. Now for the bad: its had a muffler and res delete. I like loud, but not THAT loud. Its currently obnoxious, and if i went through id buy an exhaust for it, for around 1.5k including installation. What do we think? is this a good buy, especially with tariffs coming up

How much do you avoid "problem cars"?

I'm looking for a used convertible and I'm starting to feel a bit paranoid.

Mercedes SLK seems great, but many I find in my price bracket has the M272 with balance shaft issues.

Then you've got your Audi's, with the 2.0 TFSI that has oil and cam chain issues.

MGF has strange and expensive shocks.

Mustang V8 has thermostat issues.

Boxster has the IMS bearing.

It feels like whatever car I look into they all have some fatal flaw that could get super expensive... How do you handle that?

Just keep looking for the perfect car or risk it and just buy whatever you want?

Kia Sportage Hybrid Reliability / Test Drive Disaster

I test drove hybrid models of the Tucson, Sportage, CR-V, and RAV4.

The Tucson and Sportage were the quietest rides.

But when I went back for another Sportage test drive, it literally died on the highway. Incredibly dangerous. The system just shut down. Vehicle would not turn off fully or reset in any way. Dealer had to come rescue us.

All the dealer would say was: "That's crazy. Must be something electrical."

Anyone experience anything similar? Am I crazy for wanting this car still? (My wife says yes).

Considering this Mazda 3 hatchback to cure my addiction to wagons. Seller wants 26k, is that a good deal? I'm coming from an outback so I like AWD and cargo space.

Is this a good time to buy a new car?

I’ve seen mixed opinions on whether the tariffs will have a significant impact on the car market, so I wanted to see if I could get some feedback based on my situation. I have very limited knowledge about cars or the car market.

I drive a 2011 Kia Soul that hasn’t had significant issues, but it has around 170,000 miles and has started to have issues over the past couple years. The engine light stays on and anytime I have had a diagnostics test I get mixed information on what needs to be fixed/how much it would cost. A few years ago I spent nearly $600 to get it fixed, only for the check engine light to turn back on a week later. Anytime I get an oil change the light turns off for a few days before it returns. I live in the Midwest and with the winter temperatures my car has sometimes had difficulty starting on the coldest days. The battery has also completely died multiple times in the winter, which has led to me having to replace the battery a twice over the past 4-5 years. It also does not do well in slick conditions. Additionally, my steering wheel continues to shake after multiple realignments.

My Kia was an upgrade from my first ever car, a 2004 ford explorer that broke down every other time I drove it. As such, I’ve never really had the opportunity to purchase a car that I want, as I bought both (without financial assistance) cars in my teens.

After this past winter, I decided I would get a new car before winter 2025 as I want something that is more dependable in winter conditions. I also want to get a car that I truly enjoy driving. With the tariffs possibly affecting the car market, would it be better for me to purchase a car sooner this year rather than later this year?

The car I’m considering is a 2025 Honda CR-V Hybrid AWD.

Any opinions or suggestions are welcome as I truly don’t know much about cars and don’t have anyone in my life who is knowledgeable about cars. Thank you!

Debating Between an SUV and a Sedan – What’s the Smarter Buy?

I’m in the market for a used car with a budget of around $13,000. I’d prefer an SUV, but I’m open to a sedan if it’s well-equipped and a better overall value. A SUV would fit my lifestyle better, i like to travel to other states with my bike. But I'm not opposed to getting a bike rack for the sedan

Right now, I’m considering two vehicles:

  • 2014 Toyota Camry XLE Sedan 4D – $8,900, 105,000 miles, 1 owner, private sale
  • 2017 Nissan Rogue w/ Premium Package – $12,000, 75,266 miles dealer sale

Any thoughts on which is the better buy? I’m weighing reliability, features, and long-term value. Open to other suggestions too if you’ve got them!

Talk me out of doing something stupid please

Hello! I am a 24F with massive driving anxiety. My first car at 16 was a glorious 2008 triple white vw beetle. I loved that little thing, I felt super safe and in control driving it, it parked like a dream, and got fabulous mileage.

The only downside is that we bought it from a shady dealer knowing nothing about cars and basically from winter 2017 to January of 2024 I was constantly in the shop pouring more money into the little gal than I bought her for in the first place. Eventually I said enough’s enough, popped her on FB marketplace for like $1500, someone scooped her up and limped her to her new home in the next city over and that was that. I cried like a baby.

After a good inspection from my mechanic, I bought a sensible 2015 Honda Civic, rebuilt title, sold by a dude whose father in law is a Honda mechanic, and got on my way.

But I hate it. My civic is huge, it feels like driving a boat down the highway. As soon as the tiniest gust of wind comes, I feel like I’m blowing all over the road. My bubbly little beetle could dart through 50mph gusts without so much as a jolt. I can hardly see over the double stacked dash/hood even with my seat jacked all the way up. Parking is terrifying even with the backup cam. My friend’s fiancé dropped her off the emergency jack while trying to change my tire and bent the frame a bit, causing her to pull to the right some. My mechanic says it’s fine, and I believe him, but my anxiety notices that tug every time I go out and it scares the piss out of me :(

I learned a lot about cars during my time with my beetle and during the process of buying my civic. I know now to get a pre purchase inspection, I have a great local mechanic that I trust and that treats me very well. But at the end of the day, I’m still a student (grad school) and I don’t have a ton of extra money for throwing at a fussy car.

Please, please talk me out of selling the civic and buying another beetle (but this time a post-2010 model, not as cute but evidently more reliable). I miss not being terrified every time I’m behind the wheel, but I know I’m likely to end up right back in the shop practically every month if I actually do this :(

Edit: thanks for all the advice guys! It’s not what I wanted to hear, but it’s definitely what I needed to hear🥲 I guess me and Jessica Messica the Honda Civic will stick it out together for a while longer.

Too many miles?

Just moved out of NYC after 8 years and now searching for a car, and would like something fun but also a little practical since I‘ll still be doing a decent amount of city/stop and go driving in Charlotte, NC.

Originally wanted a BRZ/GR86, but with low inventory/high prices I am leaning more towards hot hatch territory for the practicality. Also drove a Hyundai Elantra GT in college and loved it, so the Veloster N has been a top contender on my list.

Wondering if 82K miles is a red flag? I always read on here that the Hyundai engines die after 100k lol. Thanks in advance!

Hyundai Santa Cruz or Ford Maverick?

So we have been a one household for my wife and i's entire marriage of almost 6 years. We have four kids so our vehicle is a big full size SUV. But now we're in a place where we can actually afford a second vehicle and I'm not a big fan of how the full size SUV drive so I don't really want a truck but I do think having a bed would be nice That's why I like about the Santa Cruz because it's kind of a ute and I like that. But everyone raves about the Mavericks I was curious what everyone's opinion was. I can afford the top trim level and either vehicle so that's not the issue of cost I do care about value though so there's that. Thanks.

Directionless car guy for a 32-42k fun enough responsible replacement for my C5 Vette

Hey folks, I currently drive a 2000 Corvette Convertible (manual, ~93.5k miles) and I'm unfortunately in the market for a replacement.

Truth is, I'm not emotionally ready to give up a fun car. I'd love to get a $35k manual Camaro and call it a day—but I know I’ll need 4 doors in about 3 years. That said, I recently got a motorcycle, so I'm also open to getting something more tame and responsible.

Budget + info:

  • $10k–$15k down
  • ~$500–600/month max payment
  • 5 years @ ~5% interest
  • Target price range: ~$32k–42k
  • Prefer 2022+ models with <35k miles
  • Used only (for value and depreciation)
  • Commute: ~60% DFW highway traffic (like bumper to bumper to bumper), 40% interstate highway travel
  • Would want to keep it 5-7 years
  • I currently prioritize fun but I'm not sure if its worth it (esp in this economy lol)
  • Will be my daily, but I do have a motorcycle

Cars I'm considering + explanation:

  • Genesis G70: Struggling to pick between the 2.5T and 3.3T. If I go for the, 3.3T IMO I'd have to get the sport prestige, and thats ~$10k more than a base 2.5T. My friends say go for it, but $40k+ for a G70 just feels like too much. Especially since this car doesn't seem to have a strong aftermarket for when the warranty is over.
  • Toyota Crown: Comfortable, reliable, efficient, and in budget—but a huge departure from a Vette. Still, considering resale, economy, reliability, and actually quality interior makes it interesting.
  • Lexus ES350: Similar to the Crown but more aesthetically acceptable. Not considering the 300h—8 sec 0–60 is too slow for me.
  • BMW 330e: This is the car I’d recommend to any normal person in my situation. Clean, efficient, quick enough, luxury feel... but maybe not enough soul?
  • Tesla Model S: Yeah, yeah, I know… but hear me out: used sales don't help the company and my work has charging. it also feels like the best value out of all of the options despite quality.
  • Acura TLX Type S: Gorgeous car, just barely outside my budget. I won’t go deeper into debt for it, but I’m watching used prices for a potential steal.
  • Nissan Frontier: Good be a good daily. Really don't know much about them but I am interested in trucks and this is the truck I would go for with my light research.

Cars I'm NOT considering:

  • Elantra N – Was really tempted, but the G70 2.5T barely edges it out for me considering its value.
  • Q50 – Still tempting, but the interior feels stuck in 2015.
  • Audi / Mercedes-Benz – Not into the current generation offerings.
  • Nissan / Mazda / Camry / Corolla / Accord / Civic – Just not emotionally prepared to daily anything that soul-draining.

Would really appreciate help narrowing this down—or suggestions for alternatives I haven’t considered! I’m leaning toward the G70 overall, but I can’t decide if the 3.3T Sport Prestige is worth the ~$10k bump. I have driven the 3.3 and wasn't amused, it wasn't an exciting engine, but I'm scared I'll get bored of the 2.5 3-4 years into my ownership.

Is this a good deal for it's price?

Looking for a g35 under 5k and came across this, my only filters are it not being clapped out but a little mods I’ll let fly, idc about miles, manual 6 speed only, super clean and no imperfections not even little dents or rust or fade just simply nice inside and out.

My friend says it has a misaligned door but it looks like the seller just didn’t close it all the way and it’s a little off the car. I don’t see a misalignment anywhere. Others also said it has a dent but I see nothing.

I do however see the little lower left and right front bumper paint issues, that is minor and expected for a daily car like this, so I’ll let that fly.

The price is within kbb’s fair market value.

First time buying a full-size truck. Looking to buy American, but which one is most reliable?

I’ve only ever driven Toyotas my entire life. Tacoma is too small and the tundra is honestly too expensive for what it is. I’ve always stayed away from the big three American auto makers because it seemed like their reliability was mediocre compared to Toyota.

My question is, in terms of reliability, which one of the big three full sized trucks has the best track record? F-150, Silverado, or RAM 1500?

Hi guys, I just upgraded from a 2003 e class and I’ve been looking for my next car. for the past few weeks, I have really been debating which car I should buy out of the two. Normally people would say buy what you want, but I genuinely love these 2 cars, as they are within my price range. But I honestly don’t know which car to go for… any help? I plan to keep the car for a few years

First time buying a car and need one without any savings…what do I do?

I (22f) am about to start my first full-time job in May, and will be moving across states. All my savings right now will go towards that move before I get my relocation bonus. The problem is I have no car and no experience with buying one and I have nothing for a down payment. There is no free transportation there, ubering or renting will be ridiculously expensive so the only cost efficient option will be to buy a used reliable car.

How do I even go about getting a car? Should I finance through the dealership, get a car loan or a personal loan? Should I Lease? Is it possible with $0 down? Which will get me the best possible APR? how do I avoid getting stuck with a lemon? For extra context, my credit score right now is 688, I have no money at all (for a car) this month and would only be able to start making payments at the end of May if I do end up getting one, when I get my first paycheck, I’m feeling overwhelmed and would appreciate any advice or things I should do. Thank you so much!

2025 Camry vs CR-V

I know the standard debate is between the RAV and CR-V but I did not like the RAV on the test drive. My previous two cars have been Camry so it’s like home for me but I’m debating upsizing. I have one child in a rear facing car seat with the potential for more but that’s not very likely at this time. Whatever I plan to buy I’d be in for 10+ years. I’ve also seen the Mazda line recommended but am not familiar with them at all and there are no local dealerships.

First time car buyer. REAL ADVICE FOR ME PLEASE !!

Good day to all that are reading this. So my occupation is being in the military. Currently overseas and I plan on taking leave to go back home. My goal was to buy a car and build credit paying it off. My statistics so far. Credit score :760, possible down payment $15k, Budget 30k-40k.

On my mind, I've been looking into:

1. Lexus RCF (2015-2017)

2. Lexus IS 500 (2020-2024)

3. Lexus IS 350 (2020-2024)

4. Chevy Corvette Stingray-Grand sport at least 3 LT (2015-2017 MANUAL ONLY)

5. Ford Mustang GT 5.0 (2019-2023 MANUAL ONLY)

So, for the first 3 vehicles on the list, I was looking into luxury cars with some sort of good speed. Lexus is known for reliability due to ties with Toyota, has a decent engine, beautiful car models and lasty, you don't really see Lexus on the roads as often ( especially the RCF). The RCF is literally everything I'm looking for, issue is the car is way overpriced for it's year model and for the mileage. I'm not willing to pay 40k for over 80k mileage for a 2015. Because with that money, I can look into a newer gen Mustang for the same speed and it actually comes in a manual. Where as the RCF only comes in an automatic.

Same issue with the Corvette. It's a beautiful uncommon car, issue is the price for the trim. Example, I saw a 2015 stingray 2/LT for 38K. I was thinking that's not bad but again with the RCF. Am I willing to pay more for an older gen car than a newer gen with better technology. Now reading this it sounds like the Mustang is the clear winner but again I want something unique and different. You see Mustangs everywhere from eco-boost to GT's. If a Lexus RCF was for around $30k then I feel like that's a fair deal. Same with Corvette. If it came with 3/LT for $35k then I'll strongly look into it. The Mustang is not bad by any means but to me it feels like a common car. For sure a good car for the price you're paying for but there's like at least 10 different Mustangs I see per car ride. I'm not enterally sure which car to look more into, but it's literally all about pricing, mileage and damage report. But other than that, any advice from anyone ?
