is there some kind of masterlist about what kind of mods are allowed in arena quests? I've got some performance stuff + a few cosmetic mods I would like to run with, but ofc I still want to be able to participate in the leaderboards n shit. at the very least, is using dlss swapper to switch the game to dlss4 allowed? it looks and runs so much better its unreal

Is there a legit way to safely test out how you made your character so you can replicate it with the one free ticket they give?
I kinda realized I botched a couple things which are really noticeable but the limited attempts thing stresses me and I don't want to pay for a feature which should have been free

You can save your character design, then make a new character and load the saved design of your original character to mess around with. Once you make any changes you want, you can save that design to a different slot, edit your main character with the free voucher, and load the updated design.

what you make in the character maker will always look way different in actual gameplay, so also play a bit in actual game to see how it looks in different lighting/cutscenes

Up the age of your character to like 30+ and put the skin textures to around mid to high so you can really see spots and wrinkles ingame.

I am HR 97 and did the Zoh Shia HR quest and the a Mizu quest. Are there daytimes or seasons where the tempered Mizu and the Zoh Shia pop up more often? I have not seen a single one of them again after playing and resting

Zoh Shia only spawns during Inclemency, but it's not guaranteed. I haven't seen any trends or requirements for Mizu, but personally he's only ever shown up for me at night.

To get Zoh Shia investigations pick Special weather/inclemency and Night when resting at Wyveria and it should spawm very fast. Mizu can appear at any season and weather but seems to spawn more often during Plenty in both the forest and Wyveria from my experience

for the Zoh Shia armor, it seems like changing the color for section doesn't actually change anything. For example the head piece, 1st section will change the color hood and mask but the 2nd section doesn't seem to do anything? Does anyone know what the changing the color does?

Anyone feel like all the weapons' body, leg and feet movements during focus mode feels off? They seem to be gliding along the floor. Hoped they could have polished this with mocap much better.
I feel like focus mode could have worked better if all the movement were slowed down drastically when focus mode was turned on because we are focusing (Only for weapons that seem to move faster during focus mode). If anyone could find a mod that slows down the hunter during focus mode please tell me!

I don't think I understand what hyper armor is. I've seen videos saying the longsword helmbreaker has hyper armor so you can't be interrupted in your attack, but anytime I am touched at any part during helmbreaker I am flinched out of the attack. What is hyper armor?

Hyper armor is just like wearing the Rocksteady mantle. Still take damage but moves aren't canceled.
I don't think helmbreaker has hyper armor the entire move. Maybe they had the armor skill that doesn't let you get knock backed in the air (jump master)

Hyper armor lets you continue with an attack in exchange for chip damage, if you are hit during certain parts of the attack. Even if an attack has hyper armor, it won't be on the entire attack. Some attacks (switch axe sword mode counter) have tons of it, some attacks (IG charged descending slash) have a teeny tiny amount. I don't know about LS exactly since I don't play it, but if you want to test, go to the training area and set the knockback of the training dummy to regular, then experiment with getting hit during different times of helmbreaker and see when you're able to power through the hit

didn't dv, but if you take too long to join, they can be filled before you decide to pick them, and then the quest list doesn't auto refresh, so the other ones can also be filled by then

stupid question (i think): i started playing mh wilds this week and its my first experience with a monster hunter game. i'm playing the greatsword and i want to know if i get bored with it later in the game and decide to change to, lets say, the switch axe, will i be able to make full use of it, in like, will my character be as strong with the weapon if i change than he would if i were to use it from the beginning?

Stupid question: Are all copies of monster hunter wild servers interchangeable given that it’s on the same platform?
I.e. PC/steam Asia wanting to swap to an NA or European server to play with friends
Haven’t purchased the game yet but local retailer here has the game for 10% off compared to steam online but specifically lists for hk/macau. I may want to change to other servers (if possible) to play with frds from time to time.
First MH game so bare with my stupidity. Thanks

theres no servers we influence, its global and cross platform (unless disabled)
and there's no region lock, at all, but for targeted teaming up with friends, just like in previous games there is none and very very likely will never be one

Anyone got some quick bullet points on DB in wilds? Just made the mitsuzune db and armor set on a whim. Like if an LS bullet point is like
>get to red (do the parries when you can)
>spam Y>r2 loop
>helm breaker when red is almost over (or not?)
What's a db one like?

basically, use demon mode whenever you have the stamina to do so (if you want to stay safe, get out of demon mode at 50%)
use demon mode to fill the sword bar
when the sword bar is full, the dash attack is pretty good
whenever you can land it, use the three steps of demon dance (circle + triangle) for maximum damage
you can enter and leave demon mode from those steps too (e.g. circle + triangle into R)
last but not least, perfect dodge an attack to deal more damage (blue glow mode)

Wilds - I dropped the CB a couple hundred hunts ago due to the Labarina CB being a little too OP and feeling like it's carrying me throughout everything. Decided to pick it back up again today and tried on a T. Duna. It brutalizes the poor fish, but also caused it to do the roar-then-jump-into-the-river thing a whopping 5 times? I hunt this monster regularly and I don't think I've had hunts where it did it more than twice, and even then twice is a sometimes only occurrence.
Was this a coincidence? Or is there a specific "flag" that triggers said move?

It's just RNG. There's always a chance for monsters to spam a single move. Tempered Monsters also have different AI.

There was a glitch that caused them to not be given out when you did the quests, it appears Capcom's solution was to give them to you upon the next successful quest results screen so long as those quests were completed.
Thus, doubles.

Are you sure you're not confusing it with the Powder versions of the seeds?
If there is indeed a second set, it's probably because they are going to get craftable upgrades. You can hold both base and upgraded charms and they stack their effects.
In previous generations, you could buy an infinite amount of the charms but you could only hold 1 of each tier.

In Wilds, how are we supposed to farm orichalcite and that stuff? I know you get it refunded when you dismantle an artian, but it's taken me so long to basically get what comes around passively from the festivals to fully reinforce a single weapon that I'm realizing there's probably another way for this somewhere?

Zoh Shia synergizes well with Recovery Speed since the ability only activates once there's no red bar. Recovery Up is kinda nice but we're still missing the Heal on Damage we used to have in Worlds.

The 2 set bonus heals 1 HP every 2 seconds. The 4 set doubles the effect to healing 1 HP every second

In Wilds, I started the Rathian area quest with a friend, and it put me in there with my regular gear instead of the switch axe I chose. Do you think I could be banned for getting a good time with that?

Knowingly making use of a bug would also constitute as cheating, so if Capcom has some means of detecting what set a record used, they could possibly ban you.
It's better to just report the bug, so if you do still get mistakenly banned due to this bug even for a non-serious attempt, you at least have evidence for customer support to undo the ban.

Wilds
I'm trying to fill out my log of talismans, and I'm new to optimizing builds. Is there a good end-game build for monster part farming, or at least one that requires minimal armor/weapon changing? There's the Guardian Arkveld set, but I'm curious if someone is able to whip up one that is even better.
My main is the Charge Blade, but I'm not against swapping to something else if it's easier.

CB is one of the best solo weapons with minimal investment since you don't depend on Elemental Damage. You can inflict status like Sleep or Paralysis along with Stuns and the monster will be dead before you know it. Just use offensive skills like Weakness Exploit, Agitator and Max Might, eat the feasts, which give you boost to kills/captures, and add investigations that drop MATERIAL, not DECOS.

Most of the meta DPS sets are interchangeable and good for farming. If you don't want to deal with Frenzy, 4 piece Zoh Shia with the G. Arkveld arms can give you max Agitator, and max Weakness Exploit (if you have 3 decos) before you add a talisman, but has -20 dragon res. Anything with good defense, some damage skills and Partbreaker 3 should be fine.

The optimal build will vary a lot by weapon, but generally most builds try to pick two skills between Weakness Exploit, Agitator, and Burst to max, and grab Max Might 3 on top of that.
Off the top of my head, a good number of weapons use a build like Fulgar Anjanath b head/hands, Arkveld b chest, and Gore b waist/legs. Use decos/talisman to get Wex 5, Agi 5, Burst 1, Max Might 3, and Anti-virus 3. Any leftover slots can be whatever you want, but people usually slot Counterstrike for level 2 slots.

Is there a reason why half the time I use the quick select wheel, what I choose doesn't actually happen?
It's incredibly annoying when I'm trying to take ailment meds and I can't tell if my character is eating or not and then I realize the input never went in and 5 seconds later I have to try again.

It happens a lot if you try to do things while another locked animation is happening.
Just be aware what action your hunter is currently in the middle of doing, before selecting the item/action on the wheel.(This is what I tend to mess up the most on, at the very least)
As evilrobotcop said, switching to needing to click the stick upon selection is also a nice QoL feature.

Something about it is finicky, yes, but I can't tell you exactly what. It's a little bit better if you switch it to needing to click the right-stick to use, but it's still not perfect.

Copcom said there were hammer buffs but the patch notes just say mostly bug fixes and some minor nerfs to other weapons.

Trying to get sub 5:00 on the Doshaguma challenge is hard.
I'm a greatsword main anyway from World with around 200 hours so I'm not awful but best I've managed is 5:40.
Is there a trick to this fight like using the arena or do I just need to get good?

Somebody already said it but it needs to be said again. Can we PLEASE stop joining Zo Shia Lebouf if you're going to get carted 3 times? I just lost 4 times in a row and didn't get carted once. Picked up the horn and spammed melody of life and still lost. Please. I'm begging.

I understand your frustration but you are firing SOS expecting people to help you finish the quest, the same people joining the SOS are also expecting to be helped in finishing the quest. The game is hard, failing quest is normal part of the MH experience.
If you really want to play support, ideally you should have a Divine Blessing song and then keep your allies topped off with Wide Range. This means using skills like Quick Sheathe, Fast Eating, Free Meal, etc. I don't think playing song is the ideal way to keep your team topped off.

Anyone know if a 2 sharp 2 atk 1 aff artian SnS (dragon ele) is better than a 3 atk 2 ele? I assume the sharpness uptime makes up for less raw but not sure how impactful 2 the 2 ele is.
Edit: also wondering about 1 sharp 3 atk 1 aff para SnS in comparison to a 2 sharp 2 atk 1 ele

sharpness is hard to nail down on artian weapons, the basic idea is if you can stay white the entire time up until a monster usually flees, then your sharpness is good enough. with just 1 sharpness reinforcement, DB is the only weapon i've felt the need to run razor sharp/handicraft on, others get by just fine with masters touch on high affinity builds or just with nothing at all

Ever since the update, my game has been compiling shaders on initial launch and it takes age to complete. I have never had this occur before the title update but now it's happening everytime, I've already deleted the shader cache but it didn't do anything at all.
Is there any fix for this?

Having trouble with Squidward. I am a lance/gl main and I seem to have trouble cutting his testicles tenticals, let alone dealing with his fire. The water pods done seem to extinguish the flames

With lance use your charge and run circles around him. Also maybe I'm wrong but it seems like the rear tentacles cut off easier. Oh also go at him at an angle so your poker doesn't hit his giant dome.

Wilds - Is there some trick to getting Mizu to appear in the world? I did its extra mission and am HR 111. Been resting non stop and this guy won’t appear in Scarlet Forest nor Wyvaria.

He's a tier 2 monster that shows up in only the forest as far as I can tell. Rest and check the forecast. I've had a bunch of them show up while I'm resetting for Zoh.

He does show up in Wyveria as well. I've seen him pop about 4 times for me between the two areas, and don't know if its relevant or coincidence, but its always been during a fallow for me

I've seen him show up a few times in the forest. It was always night time when he was out. When you're resting, have you been checking the future monsters? I'm sure he can just be on the map immediately after resting, but it's also worth checking the forecast so if one is showing up in 5-10 minutes you don't rest again.

Is SOS broken? I'm on PC, I've tried limiting to my region and platform, for days now I've been unable to find a single high rank SOS. Tried any target, tried a number of specific targets. What gives?

Does anyone know how Zoh Shia's part breaks work? And for that matter since they're kind of similar (I assume), Uth Duna's as well? Does the damage to their "armor" (the water veil and white crystals) transfer over to actual Part Break requirements, or do parts only take damage when the armor is broken?
I assume it's probably similar to previous games, like you probably cant cut Zoh Shia's tail unless they're in the armorless mode, but those are assumptions that I never really looked into properly before.

I tested trying to cut a tail as the only damage from the start. It can't be cut except in the last phase.
The crystals break after a damage threshold that is different than the part break threshold. I can't tell if you can get a true part break while crystals are still up.
Uth as far as I can tell has a legit shield that blocks damage.

Anyone know if the new event quest for Guardian Doshaguma “Anguish and Atrocity” can give gold crowns? His small crown is one of the last ones I need. I’ve hunted him a few times and loaded in and quit 10 times now but no luck so far. Just wondering if someone can confirm before I waste a bunch of time trying lol

I need help!
I just started mh wilds today100% new to everything you could think of, closest thing here was horizon
And I am struggling!!
I am not sure if it is the gameplay style but I just beat the boss before the beginning of ch2 and I would have NOT made it without the in game assists and the patience of dodging and shooting 4-7 damage(or 2!) Every time. I chose bow main, secondary longsword.
Am I too weak or is it normal at the beginning? What should I do?

Bow is tricky because you need to master your evade skill, without that, you will constantly be out of stamina, and that makes it extremely difficult to attack and dodge their attacks. Bow can be a fun weapon, once you have a solid grasp of monster attack animations and can quick evade them regularly.
Honestly, for brand new players, I would recommend you start with the Lance. You can pretty much block every attack, can just hold R2 and learn their attack animations that way without dying. You dont really need to worry about upgrading your armor very often since your shield will help block most damage anyway. Lance is the safest way to learn monster attacks, and once you learn those, using other weapons becomes much much easier since you will know what to look out for to evade

Ok, so, the usual suspects first. Are you grilling meals in your tent, or at least eating Well-Done Steaks when your meal runs out? You do get a lavish feast from the NPCs sometime in Chapter 2, but that still only lasts so long. Have you been keeping up with upgrading your armor and/or weapon? Quematrice gear is pretty easy to craft and a decent start for any Hunter. Are you bringing the right consumables to the quest? Potions, Mega Potions, Nullberies, Antidotes/Herbal Medicine, etc are all indispensable parts of a Hunter's gear. What part of the hunt exactly are you having trouble with? Have you tried changing weapons or using different approaches (sticking to the monster's ass or its side instead of the front, for example)?

Bow can be a bit of a challenge if you don't know all of its mechanics and playstyle. If you really want to stick with Bow, you could look up a guide to learn the mechanics of how it works. You could also try a different weapon to see if you enjoy it more. If you're still learning, I would suggest a weapon that can block like Sword and Shield or Lance. There are other weapons that can block, but those two are the most beginner friendly, imo.

MHWilds - Why can't I change Alma's appearance? I've updated my game, I have access to all my other DLC, but on both of my characters, the option to change her appearance is greyed out when I go to the tent and when I try to click it, a message pops up that says, "You cannot do that right now."

kind of? it's a weird thing-
I personally the game felt smoother last night, but the graphics looked off from the usual, so idk if it was for the better or for the worse
but at the same time, my game crashed yesterday too so...
there are also a LOT of questions in this thread (earlier on) questioning if the servers were working and/or them getting weird errors that started after TU1
I think there's one person who says the game is unplayable for them, with it constantly crashing

no, I only used the DirectStorage("DirectStorage 1.2.2 Upgrade to 1.2.3 - IO Stutter Fix") mod pre-TU1 as well as a custom config file ("Monster Hunter Wilds – Performance Boost Config"), which uses FSR I believe (but I do use a 3070 RTX card)

Does anyone else seem to have a massive amount of latency with this game? I'm getting 80-100 ms of latency and sometimes I have to spam 3-4 times the button for commands to work. Dodging is borderline impossible sometimes.
I have to use Fram Gen despite having a good PC to get consisten 60+ FPS but heard this causes latency, but if I turn it off the massive dips make any latency gain basically null.

Is there a list of all items that work with Wide Range 5?
I used might pill and got the thanks notification from others and didn't know that was one of them. I'm trying to drag teammates to finish line in Zoh Shia and use all the demon drugs, nuts and powders

It should affect every healing item and buff item. With Mushroomancer, should also affect every shroom except Mandragora. Powders are already Area Buffs.

Mhgu, im doing the megaman event quest and this ludroth has these flashing dark red spots. Ive seen them on other monsters too. What does it mean?

Those are hyper monsters. They have higher stats than normal monsters and never get tired. If the monster makes an attack with the glowing body part, it will flash and the attack will be even stronger than normal. But if you hit the glowing spots your hunter art gauge will charge faster.

Mitzu is pretty garbo. Zoh Shia 2pc pretty good for defensive sets. For single parts, Zoh Shia has very good pieces to sneak in agitator.

Meta wise? No. Zoh Shia chest is a straight upgrade to Blango for Agitator, but that's about it. I think technically the Zoh Shia headpiece has more deco space than Fulgur, but that's only if you want an extra 1 slot and 1 (or just 2) points of Recovery Speed and don't need the Fulgur two piece bonus.
4 piece Zoh Shia with G. Arkveld arms makes a decently comfy set and gives you super recovery (can passively heal until your health is full, not just the red portion). 4 piece Mizu is the only way to self-proc Slicked Blade on the Mizu weapons.

Hey, I tried logging in to the new update this morning, to which my game just closed over and over, so I just thought it was either new update stuff or some sort of issue with steamdeck. I just tried again and now I'm getting a codefusion error, saying that it can't validate my purchase(error code 88500006, to be specific)? I bought it directly from steam, as I am playing on steam deck, and have not recently changed anything on my system. Just updated the game, I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting the system etc etc. Will this still happen if I try again 24 hours later? Anyone got any ideas?

I don't believe so, but the new monsters might have higher resistance to Para than base game monsters. I've killed Zoh Shia 3 times now and only ever proc'd one Para.

Zoh appears to have massive status resist tolerance so you can get status on him fine the first time but then probably won't get a second one.

Anyone know how to get rid of the "Sorry, something went wrong" error in Wilds? Validating files, removing mods, uninstalling and reinstalling, nothing worked. Still getting the error. Do I need to do a whole fresh install (delete game directory)?
Edit: fresh install didn't work ;_; Do I just have to wait out the 24 hours?

Am I playing Gunlance wrong or suboptimal?
During an SOS, I was told to stop charge shelling and just do the full burst combo. I was using the Lawful Bors with wide shelling. I normally do hunts by using both charges of Wyvern Fire blast then charge shell until I get my charges back. I do use full burst combo but its mostly after I have my Wyvern Fire charges back so they shoot faster.

Charged shelling is suboptimal for DPS, yes. Double full burst (if you have the opening) is ideal, but moving shell -> sweep -> full burst is probably your most spammable combo.

I'm not having a big issue with him with longsword but I've found foresight and iai slashes are really dangerous to do. For the most part I just use foresights against his roars and dodged and charged/combo slashed to level up the guage. You can very easily sneak in charge spirit slashes after he whiffs one of his big attacks or a front to back full spirit combo baits out an attack that will whiff while you finish off near his tail.

try dodging instead of parrying, some of the attacks hit twice so parrying one will cause you to get hit by the follow up
also if the crystals are getting triggered by zoh's attack and exploding on you, try quick-firing elemental ammo into the crystals to turn them against zoh (But mind the chain reaction)

iirc, it was like one of the first thing they patched out
off the top of my head, one quest forced the time to be just before full moon? (idk, I never did this thing)
they removed the time forcing(?), so now you need to wait normally/spam rest to get it to full moon to get one run in now

fwiw, after I patched, compiled my shaders (I assumed the new update would force a rebuild, so I updated my graphics driver; apparently it didn't, so I shot myself in the foot for 10 minutes), when I went to connect to a squad lobby, my game crashed
When I restarted my game, it ran some "optimize shaders" load bar that took another minute or so, then it hasn't crashed since then

I did some more testing. Both! Speed increases tic rate of the skill and Recovery up increases the power of each tic. I'm not sure how immunizer works with it.

idk about Wilds, but iirc in previous games it worked like this:
-recovery up did affect it bc you get healed more from it, not sure if only the non-red regen part
- recovery speed it was the other way around, so that red part got sped up, extra HP not
- immunizer worked on both

Question about using mods.I only use modding for graphic/performance increase. Removed everyrhing before the update drop, is it safe to reuse now? Mods are the lite environment mod and disable post processing effects by REframework

There's always a risk, but so far they haven't done any bans for using mods in World and Rise. I use it because I have RTX 3060ti and need it in order to use frame gen and DLSS 4

You can, I only just discovered now. The problem is that it's a 5 star quest in the middle of the optional quests (page 4 if you're looking at it from a list view, or scroll down two rows on the box view from the recommended way of organizing missions). All of the recommended quests above Mizitsune are side quests that we are given by the NPCs. So the optional quest is there, but I didn't think to look there because I always use investigations to hunt monsters now.

This is a very stupid question, but before I installed a mod manager, I just put the mods in my wilds folder. Now, is there a way to see what files are modded? I am an idiot and can't remember what is vanilla or not.
Would a verify file's work and remove the additional stuff I installed?

I remove the reframework folder and delete everything in the exe filder except the exes. Verify integrity redownloaded everything else.

verify only cares about the vanilla files and ignores the rest
you'd have to compare whats in your MH folder and in the downloaded mod archives manually
e: small chance moving install folder via steam leaves the mod files in the original location, assuming you got another drive for it (and uninstall is ofc an option but time consuming depending on internet speed/hardware)

Depends a bit on how well the special effect of Zho Shia actually works for Gunlance.

For all weapons it has about a 3 sec cool down and when you hit it procs for 1d3 charges. When it hits 3 charges it explodes for 50 damage.
It’s roughly a 5 DPS increase and the slower your kill speed the better it is. At 5 mins and up it’s one of the best DPS skills.

It is now 5% raw, 10% aff and lasts 90 seconds instead of 10/30/120 so it is still usable, it just went from broken to very good
