I can’t imagine a person buying a cybertruck and then feeling shame about it later. I can’t imagine them feeling shame about anything.

u/trentreynolds 23d ago

You think most of the Teslas that have been sold to this point have been to MAGA types?

Those people absolutely hated electric cars like a year ago.

I'd venture a guess that MOST people who own a Tesla right now in 2025 feel some shame about it. Could be wrong.

72

u/ARealForHonorDev 23d ago

Teslas, perhaps, but not cybertrucks. Everyone knew he was a douchebag by the time those came out

34

u/Krazyguy75 23d ago

There's a difference between a douchebag and a nazi attempting to overthrow the government. Hell, when the cybertruck launched he hadn't even bought twitter. A lot of people are willing to buy from companies with douchebag CEOs, because douchebag CEOs are literally everywhere.

2

u/ThatInAHat 23d ago

Yeah but it’s also ugly af and a pos as well

3

u/1v1mecaestusm8 23d ago

He bought twitter in 2022, the cybertruck released in 2023.

4

u/Krazyguy75 23d ago

And you could preorder Cybertrucks back in 2020, 2 years before he bought twitter.

Look at the vehicles pictured…. There’s one cybertruck. Here in Seattle, it’s all teslas being vandalized

2

u/corkscream 23d ago

Dumbasses that went “oooh futuristic shiny weird thing!!” Might not be nazis but just dumbasses with money. Hahaha

Tesla cars, no. Cybertrucks, well. I don't know about MAGA, but if someone bought a Cybertruck, best-case scenario they're a fucking loser regardless of their political views. I see many of them, and the drivers always seem very proud of themselves and open to a controntation.

12

u/Pitiful-Ring-3927 23d ago

Gotta wonder if folk like that are really open for a confrontation what their reaction would be to ridicule.

In my experience, anyone who has that outlook on life is ready to pick a fight, but are they ready to be laughed at?

5

u/happy_bluebird 23d ago

what kind of person buys a Cybertruck?

u/Prexxus 23d ago

I dunno, if I had the money to waste and Elon wasn't such a douche maybe I'd get one just for the novelty. The thing is fucking weird looking which is fun.

9

u/HaoHaiMileHigh 23d ago

Like, as the tenth useless car you’d buy? Even in its classes it’s not even top 3… ten different trucks I’d buy first, ten different ev’s id buy first, plenty of sports cars.. I’d buy a resto mod of some random classic car, ANY replica of any television/series EVER, hell I’d buy and restore an Oscar Meyer wiener vehicle before I’d but this piece of shit.. no taste, no class, no values…

4

u/ItsAnimeDealWithIt 23d ago

right you’d see me in a rolls royce, that’s a useless car if by if i had that typa mula

I really want to buy a cybertruck, I just love weird vehicles. The Vehicross, Lotus Europa, the new Jag type 00, even the Aztec. While I agree that buying it right now requires a MAGA hat and the ability to huff paint without shame,  eventually you've gotta let people just people enjoy whatever they want

16

u/brutinator 23d ago

Once Musk no longer financially benefits from it, then people can enjoy buying a cybertruck if they want.

8

u/shhithapens 23d ago

That's a fair deal. By the time he no longer benefits, it'll have depreciated enough for me to buy one

9

u/Commercial-Growth742 23d ago

Eventually you gotta be okay with supporting a nazis business.

1

u/shhithapens 23d ago

I don't condone nor like what the first lady is doing, i hope terrible things for him. But VW, Porsche, Audi, BMW, Ford, Mercedes, Daimler and GM were all involved or collaborated with the actual Nazis. What's the difference? Time?

1

u/PangeaDestructor 23d ago edited 23d ago

Kinda, yeah. As far as I'm aware, none of those companies currently have execs that are throwing seig heils while pillaging our government and ushering in fascism and oligarchy. Those were like 80 years ago.

ETA more oligarchy than we had previously

I have a friend with a cybertruck. He's absolutely not political at all. He's definitely not a loser. He was proud of it because he thought it was crazy and it's fun to drive. I have to say, riding in it was actually pretty fun. It's still ugly as fuck and we all make fun of him, but who cares. He doesn't.

Anyway, someone in a big dodge truck drew a swastika on it and scratched it. Until that moment he had no idea that was a thing.

u/VapeThisBro 23d ago

IDK, most maga people I know, I live in the deep south, love their big Ford F250s etc. They are the last people who would want an all electric truck, especially after for decades hating on liberals for driving hybrids and electric cars.

2

u/kingDavid425 23d ago

Damn, another liberal stereotyping an entire group of people based on what they drive??? If the CEO of Toyota gets arrested for trafficking kids, should I have my trucks tires slashed before I can go to work?? Or should I focus my entire life on replacing my vehicle??

This is literally how racism starts

u/GenghisFrog 23d ago

I’m in that boat. I love my Model Y, but damn has Elons behavior the past few years really put a stink on it. It’s by far my favorite car I’ve ever owned, and I feel shame driving it. Weird feeling.

6

u/SpankTheDevil 23d ago

Same here with my Model 3. Not a single issue since I got it in 2022, but I’m dumping it for the Rivian R2 as soon as they’re available. Already preordered.

4

u/Viltris 23d ago

One option is, you could get one of those bumper stickers that says "I bought this before we know Elon was crazy". They're like $7.

It won't actually do anything. Most people are reasonable and understand that buying a Tesla doesn't automatically mean you're okay with what Elon is doing. And the people crazy enough to vandalize your Tesla probably won't be stopped by a cheap bumper sticker. But it would be a good way to say "Yes, I get it, Elon sucks, and I'm not happy about it either."

If you're feeling really spicy, buy some spray paint and write "Fuck Elon" all over your car. Vandalize your own Tesla before someone else does.

Or maybe it might backfire, and the vandal will think "It's already been vandalized, so it's fair game to vandalize it even more."

1

u/BoardGamesAndMurder 23d ago

Yeah me too. I want an electric car but I want range and charging network to easily drive cross country as well as reliability. I know people are going to bash the tesla build quality but they don't just fail (other than the cyber dumpster) like others. I'd fucking love to jump to a competitor. Self driving is a scam and if others had the charging network and 300+ mile range I'd be all over it

15

u/rnarkus 23d ago

They said cyber trucks lmao.

25

u/Drink15 23d ago

MAGA types tend to like trucks. I would guess most Tesla owners are not Elon supporters

6

u/keegtraw 23d ago

I agree, but being a truck owner doesn't automatically make you maga. Non-rightwing truck owners exist; there have to be at least... dozens of us.

3

u/Zardif 23d ago

I own a truck, I use it to go out into the wilderness pretty often; I'm not maga. I know a bunch of people around me who do the same who aren't maga. When you live in the west there's so much to do with so much actual wilderness.

2

u/GoombyGoomby 23d ago

Idk why this is even a conversation

The Ford f150 has been the best/one of the best selling vehicles in America for forever because we fucking love trucks

From left to right on the political spectrum, it doesn’t matter.

It is only an incredibly, incredibly small minority of people in this country that associate driving a truck with being right wing/MAGA, and they’re wrong to do so.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/TheWizardOfDeez 23d ago

Elon was already cancerous to those paying attention by the time the Cybertruck was even announced. By the time it was released he was trying to overthrow democracy. Not a single Cybertruck owner cares about the environment, and MAGA types tend to like ICE vehicles so whats left is tech bros who are more into Elon than Trump. Which IMO is way slimier than your average MAGA cultist whose just too stupid to know whats going on.

u/Used-Gas-6525 23d ago

Hence Tesla's 50% drop in stock price since January.

1

u/cmg0047 23d ago

It had a pretty dramatic rise today, but TSLA is lining up well with the rest of the market for today's gains. Everything is down so bad.  TSLA is currently sitting at -35% since January which is less than a lot of the stocks I follow.  His actions definitely are a driving force.  Most of the stocks I follow are only sitting at -10 to -20%.  A few are even positive YTD but not by much.

3

u/curtcolt95 23d ago

which is why the whole attacking people who drive teslas thing seems so weird to me. Like yeah encourage people to not buy more but mocking people who currently drive them that are very likely on your side politically seems like a terrible idea

2

u/Viltris 23d ago

The left is notorious for fighting amongst ourselves. The last time we were able to unite and get something done was Obama. And even then, we fell apart in Congress and only just barely managed to pass a heavily compromised ACA.

Meanwhile, all the right-wingers who say they hate Trump eventually fall in line and start kissing his ass.

3

u/streetkiller 23d ago

VERY FEW and far between are buying Cybertrucks on the right side of the aisle. $80,000 gets you a real truck.

1

u/Icy-Bicycle-Crab 23d ago

TBF, very few and far between are buying Cybertrucks on the left side of the aisle. It's a lot less than $80,000 to get you a real truck like a Tacoma.

1

u/aisuperbowlxliii 23d ago

MAGA people absolutely hate the idea of an electric truck lol. No Appalachian trump supporter would ever buy an EV

5

u/whoweoncewere 23d ago

but the tech/finance bro maga love it

23

u/matchalover 23d ago

I am mildly ashamed, but it also helps that everyone and their Mom's have a Tesla in my area, so we're not about to vandalize each other's cars.

We have two Teslas and the only reason we're not getting rid of them is because we have free lifetime charging. A part of me is like "suck it Elon," every time I charge, even though it means nothing to him.

10

u/Tarledsa 23d ago

He’s probably going to take that away at some point.

3

u/welsper59 23d ago

Honestly, I think a lot of people are in a similar boat when it comes to Tesla cars. Many people probably know at least one person they actually like that owns one. The "truck" on the other hand is a newer monstrosity that typically requires a certain type of person to have interest in it. There's no doubt some cyber truck owners aren't like that and have those types of tastes, but yeah.

→ More replies (7)

3

u/nopunchespulled 23d ago

Yup which makes it even crazier that people think vandalizing these cars hurts Elon. He already got his money and now you want to hurt a person who likely aligns politically with you so Elon will feel bad?

4

u/Alarming-Business-79 23d ago

I feel no shame for owning a Tesla. The company is so much more than one douche.

2

u/budzergo 23d ago

Didn't you know the guy who owns an entire 13% represents all the hard and groundbreaking work the engineers and scientists have done?

How they essentially dragged electric vehicles from nothingness to the top selling vehicle of 2023 and 2024?

Most of reddit doesn't, but they sure do love to post his picture on reddit, then screech a 10 years old quality insults.

2

u/happy_bluebird 23d ago

what kind of person buys a Cybertruck?

2

u/pongo62 23d ago

Yeah, like two years ago, the ones touting how great battery-powered vehicles were are now the ones setting them on fire. Funny how shit works.

1

u/trentreynolds 23d ago

Those people are still buying electric cars.  They’re just buying them from someone else.

2

u/FuryOWO 23d ago

we had known that elon was bad for years becore the cybertruck came out

2

u/PreciousMuffn 23d ago

I definitely do, but I still love the car. It really sucks... you're trying to help the environment more, have less out of pocket gas and maintenance costs, and I couldn't ignore the end of year incentives on a used 2022 Y that allowed purchase for a grand total of $36000. Significantly cheaper than the hybrid I was considering...

And yet, now when I go out I am afraid people are going to think I'm pro-Musk and pro-MAGA (especially since they're pushing it to MAGAs right now). The other day I was reading in my car and some mentally unstable guy walked by angrily muttering about how jobs required drug tests and it sounded like he didn't get a job at a local factory. He saw my car and started cursing Musk and tesla owners. He made me really nervous as I was waiting to pick up my toddler.

It's been tempting to return it as an F You to Musk, but my husband would probably kill me as he's wanted one for over 8 years.

2

u/Terrh 23d ago

IDK why anyone would feel shame about a car they own.

I could not even tell you who the CEO is of any car I've ever owned aside from one. I literally do not care what they do or think or how they run their company or anything else, all I care about when buying a car is whether or not I like it.

I also have no idea why anyone thinks that vandalizing teslas is a good idea. It's like just putting money straight into Musk's pocket.

Also, teslas have cameras and record everything so you'll end up getting caught.

And in case everyone forgot, there's kinda a climate crisis right now and destroying the least impactful cars that could exist (those being already built EVs) really isn't great for that.

Short the stock, boycott buying a new one, protest in front of their stores - those are things elon will feel.

8

u/Impossible_Round_302 23d ago

I could not even tell you who the CEO is of any car I've ever owned aside from one.

This is part of the issue with musk going full ketty regard. He is a far bigger part of Tesla's image than any other CEO for any other car company. Noone sees the 4 mercedes rings and thinks of Döllner or the lion badge and think of Jackson, unlike with Tesla.

1

u/stormurcsgo 23d ago

mercedes rings?

1

u/morrison0880 23d ago

Sorta like the blue Chevy oval.

3

u/Sstoop 23d ago

this is a really weird take especially the climate crisis one. every single good thing an electric vehicle does during its life span for the environment is completely undone by an oil company in seconds. the solution to the climate crisis doesn’t fall on the consumer and directing blame towards them just lets these oil companies off the hook.

the term “carbon footprint” was literally invented by BP. https://www.wbur.org/onpoint/2023/12/19/how-big-oil-helped-push-the-idea-of-a-carbon-footprint#:~:text=But%20as%20far%20as%20we,BP%20as%20%22Beyond%20Petroleum.%22

i think vandalising teslas is performative and has no real impact but i also think rebranding teslas also has the same lack of impact. also your point about not knowing ceos, there isn’t another car company on earth that’s ceo is as linked to the product as elin musk is. everyone who owns a tesla knows who he is and knows what he’s like and he’s been a huge piece of shit for years.

4

u/Terrh 23d ago

Acting like nothing anyone ever does matters because the oil companies make a ton of emissions makes no sense.

The oil companies would not exist if nobody ever bought oil or gas.

https://www.epa.gov/ghgemissions/sources-greenhouse-gas-emissions

Notice that Oil and gas isn't bigger than everything else combined?

In fact, it's less than a quarter!

1

u/Sstoop 22d ago

most oil and gas companies don’t operate in the us. that’s a graph of us economic sectors.

u/FoxFyer 23d ago

There isn't a single person who bought a cybertruck because of environmental concerns. It was loyalty theater, they bought it because they are obsessed with Elon Musk, either out of a belief that he is Sci-Fi Space Jesus or as a Cryptobro figurehead.

3

u/Krazyguy75 23d ago

I know a person who bought one. Far left voter. Bought it because they thought the meme was funny and they like cyberpunk stuff. They wanted an electric vehicle too. And frankly he had enough money that he doesn't have to worry about big purchases like that.

I'd reckon there are a lot of people that bought it because of reasons like that. Probably far more than there are people on the far right who are fan of cyberpunk electric vehicles.

2

u/Terrh 23d ago

I would hope that people bought that truck because they like it.

Buying a $100,000 vehicle you don't like because of "loyalty theater" is not something that most people would have the money to do I'd think.

4

u/SanityInAnarchy 23d ago

I could not even tell you who the CEO is of any car I've ever owned aside from one.

I think it's entirely reasonable to only know about the one car CEO who did two back-to-back Sieg Heils on national TV. On top of that:

...all I care about when buying a car is whether or not I like it.

Modern cars are far more connected, and Teslas in particular are far more dependent on the company behind them to keep working. Everything from remote-start to your ability to take a road trip depends on Tesla-the-company staying competent.

So this CEO in particular actually has some impact in "whether or not I like it", and can even have that impact over time.

I agree that vandalizing Teslas is dumb. But you really can't imagine why someone would regret their purchase now? Especially if they bought them for the climate crisis?

2

u/Krazyguy75 23d ago

He did those sieg heils... in 2025. Five years after the cybertruck launch.

Hell, when the pre-orders started, he hadn't even bought twitter.

1

u/SanityInAnarchy 23d ago

I didn't say anything about cybertrucks. Wouldn't that support my argument about Tesla owners regretting their purchase, and that it's dumb to vandalize the individual vehicles?

But fine. Where did you get five years from? It was planned to launch in 2021, but the first models weren't delivered until November of 2023, which is about a year after "My pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci" and a year or so into the Xitter shitstorm. That's the kind of public attention that, again, most car CEOs tend to avoid.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Babys_For_Breakfast 23d ago

Yeah, a lot of these vandalisms of cars are a felony amount of damage. Not really gonna get sympathy from the judge when they sentences you to prison just because you hate Teslas CEO.

1

u/ChildishForLife 23d ago

short the stock

Wouldn’t this cause market makers to hedge by buying the stock? How does shorting the stock even do anything to affect Musk negatively lol

1

u/Ill-Chemistry-8979 23d ago

Most people feel shame? I have an S and an X and couldn’t care less what anyone else thinks. The 911 is what I use to make impressions lol

1

u/nekoshey 23d ago

You're missing a huge portion of what makes up the modern MAGA demographic. It's not just rednecks and evangelicals. It's AI techbros, angry "gamergate" losers, and wannabe podcast influencers - all the people who are on the forefront of new technologies.

1

u/Mediumish_Trashpanda 23d ago

I don't know, any Trump supporters I know still don't care for electric vehicles, Tesla or not.

They also seem to look at Musk as some weirdo following after Trump, clueless that they are just as sycophant as him except he has power now.

1

u/Notmeleg 23d ago

You are absolutely right but I don’t feel any shame about it. I bought the car for the right reasons at the time. Maybe that makes me an asshole but if you are an average consumer in a capitalist society, you are constantly supporting companies with unethical practices. Most of us still use iPhones and don’t plan on rebranding them or boycotting. While Elon has turned out to be quite the schmuck, Tesla is still made up of some really hard working and honest people who put their best efforts and livelihoods into the success of these cars. I support those people not Elon (yes I know he benefits the most but I can’t change that part, already bought the car).

1

u/Repulsive_Hornet_557 23d ago

Hating electric cars is I think the regular low income MAGA voter and anyone involved in oil

There is a certain subset of rich MAGA who have no issue with electric cars, particularly techbro types who love Elon Musk. Those are also the types who can afford to buy Cybertrucks in particular.

So I would say yeah most Tesla owners aren’t MAGA types but Cybertrucks? Fuck those people.

1

u/YourPalHal99 23d ago

Cyber trucks appealed to the crypto finance bro crowd of Elon's cult that are also MAGA

1

u/Background-Comb6330 22d ago

Nobody buys a Cybertruck because it's a good vehicle. They buy a Cybertruck because they want to flaunt their wealth being enough that they can afford driving around in Elon's metal brick of shit.

13

it's truly a "status symbol" car.

Why is this hard to imagine?

- I like the environment.

- I like EVs.

- I'm okay with unique looking vehicles.

- I like established charging networks.

- I like camping.

- I don't like nazis.

I haven't bought a Cybertruck, but I maybe would if they dumped Elon.

17

u/Deucer22 23d ago

By the time the cybertruck came out there were better alternatives for less money. Elon had already bought Twitter and was already off the rails MAGA. People knew what they were getting into.

u/nospamkhanman 23d ago

The 3, Y, and S are excellent vehicles. They went a little off the rails for the X and the Cybertruck is pure Elon stupidness.

I do feel sorry for people that purchased a reasonable Tesla before they learned that Elon was a crazy nazi

3

u/Sertisy 23d ago

The weird thing is there are those threatening people unless they sell their Tesla. So they can stalk the next owner I suppose?

2

u/corut 23d ago

S is great. 3 & Y are appliances more then vehicles.

1

u/cmg0047 23d ago

We bought an X in 2023.  We haven't had any issues with it and we like it a lot more than the Cayenne we had before it.  Us owning Teslas has absolutely nothing to do with Elon though.  I would prefer they find a new CEO.  I can't see myself in any other brand of car though.  I would consider a Rivian (Lucid doesn't sell enough annually for me to feel comfortable buying one.) I just refuse to buy from an actual dealership after experiencing ease of purchase.

Not if you need to charge several times to get up to the mountains and back. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the R1T, but as an owner of a Nissan Leaf and a Model Y having a dedicated charging network makes owning an EV a dramatically better experience. Charging on the Leaf is a miserable and stressful experience.

u/stumblinghunter 23d ago

How so? Genuinely curious. I've never had enough money to own an EV lol but seriously thought about it with the Colorado EV we just had where you could lease a leaf for like $30/mon

u/dubbfoolio 23d ago

There are no standards. You have to sign up for a different charging service by region, download an app. You show up you don’t know if the chargers are occupied or worse broken with no plans to ever repair, b/c YMMV on if the company actually maintains their chargers. You have to do all your route planning beforehand and hope when you show up charging is available, and you might be stuck waiting around. Or stuck downloading an app. Or hoping you have enough charge to get to the next charging station. Tesla to their credit directs you to the cheapest, available chargers. Does all the route planning. Preconditions your battery. With a Tesla a road trip doesn’t take any longer than a gas vehicle. At the end of the day it’s a good American company with talented engineers, and I look forward to supporting them again someday after they lose the Nazi.

Ehhhhh, yeah it does. Especially if you have to charge more than once, and also want to arrive at your destination with a useable charge. Mind you, I don't really care too much about the extra time, but it's nowhere near as fast as gassing up and going.

I think Tesla is doing Model 3 leases for under $400 a month.  I would imagine you could get other EVs that low as well right?  Like is Chevy doing the Blazer EV for cheaper now?  I know I kept seeing ads for an $899 Hummer EV lease which is a lot of money monthly, but I thought it was a killer deal for a $100k vehicle.  I didn't see the details though.

I apologize if I'm assuming you can afford that I don't know your financial situation at all.  It's honestly just insane how expensive vehicles have gotten since 2019.

If you weren't aware, they failed at 10x their rated weight in these tests.

Cybertrucks weigh wayyy too much for the added weight of steel

My wife and I live in TX (voted blue our entire lives) and she purchased a Model Y for all the reasons you listed. She looked hard at the Hyundai Ioniq because I drive a hybrid Hyundai but due to the rebates the Model Y was actually cheaper.

There is absolutely no excuse to vandalize Teslas of hard-working Americans. If some angry idiot comes on my property to vandalize or do god-knows-what else I will shoot them dead with no compunction. I have a newborn in my house and someone crazy enough to trespass in TX is crazy enough to harm my family.

2

u/dubbfoolio 23d ago

Seriously. “Let’s go destroy some likely democrats property, that’ll show trump” is the dumbest most cowardly shit in the world. Yes, boycott. Yes sell the stock and cancel your preorders… I did. No don’t fuck with the people or their property when they were trying to make the best, we’ll-intentioned decision at the time, and is probably (or would have been) sympathetic to your cause.

2

u/blasto_pete 23d ago

Yeah, fuck Musk and everyone like him but attacking each other when we are in the midst of an Oligarchy would be laughable if it weren't so depressing.

1

u/blasto_pete 23d ago

Reddit's clown-ass gave me a warning for threatening violence in that comment. What a fucking joke.

1

u/cXs808 23d ago

Cybertruck is ass for camping lol.

1

u/twlscil 23d ago

If you like Camping, don't buy a CT. They aren't rated for off road, and their tent system sucks.

1

u/Icy-Bicycle-Crab 23d ago

There's far better trucks than the cybertruck.

Yeah, I know a few. You can like pickups but not agree with musk. You can even like the car and hate the guy.

13

u/Strength-InThe-Loins 23d ago

People who like pickups hate the Cybertruck the most.

u/Minty-beef 23d ago

They don’t have shame, and they never will have shame. My parents unprompted texted me they were worried they would be targeted because they have one. I told them to sell their Nazi truck and buy any other equally capable electric truck. They told me why should they. I told them because Elon is a Nazi, and sent that picture. They told me “his heart goes out to us” and I said consider me dead because refuse to associate with nazis.

I’m lucky my in laws are sane and normal working class people and will help us with these upcoming hard times.

2

u/DontShoot_ImJesus 23d ago

You're correct. It's not shame, it's avoiding being a target for political violence by the US left.

2

u/MartianLM 23d ago

Yeah, I never put these re-badgings down distancing themselves. More to avoid vandalism. I mean if you want to distance yourself or disassociate from Musk and Trump then sell the car Shirley?

3

u/MentionParking2998 23d ago

I’m a huge Tesla (cars, not necessarily Musk) fan. I drive a 2024 Model X Plaid. Before that I had a model Y. Great cars. My Model X was recently at the service center for a repair. They gave me a Cybertruck as a loaner. I FELT LIKE SUCH A DOOSHBAG driving it. The shame was real. In any other Tesla I feel fine.,,

2

u/Da40kOrks 23d ago

Who said anything about "shame" . They just don't want their shit broken.

1

u/Ok_Bet_3969 23d ago

We need to stand for eachother

1

u/Upper-Requirement-93 23d ago

Bad with money and no taste knows no political boundary

1

u/Fortestingporpoises 23d ago

Not shame so much as fear that someone's going to set their car on fire.

1

u/amishius 23d ago

They are willing to do a little defacing before someone else does a lot of defacing.

1

u/4_Whores_7_Beers_ago 23d ago

This is done so people won’t destroy your car on sight.

1

u/stringcheesesurf 23d ago

return of the Hummer

1

u/browster 23d ago

Right. If anything I'd expect them to install some aftermarket device that burns diesel so they can still roll coal

1

u/spkoller2 23d ago

Yeah they have a big stainless vehicle

1

u/BallSea3892 23d ago

They only care about how they’re seen in the boundary of where they fall within the realm of controlled opposition.

1

u/The_Hoff901 23d ago

I know a guy who was on a waitlist before it came out and bought it right on release. If anyone mentions it he quickly shares that fact.

I don’t know in how he truly feels deep down, but he is quick to try to distance himself from the musk of today and implies he would not buy the same truck today.

1

u/mbhwookie 23d ago

I could see it. It was announced in 2019 before Elon completely lost it. It had a cult following from the start. I would agree that by time it launched, Elon was already pretty bad, I could see a handful of people not paying much attention to that and still buying it. Not many, but some.

1

u/surf_drunk_monk 23d ago

I remember seeing cybertrucks on the road before being aware of all the controversy with musk. Whenever I say this people on Reddit say I must've been living in a cave... Lol

1

u/AbeRego 23d ago edited 23d ago

I think some people just like that it was a really outside of the box design. Like, if it had actually been a well constructed vehicle that operated as promised, I don't see anything wrong with it.

There are a lot of examples of design, art, and architecture that are at least at first considered to be ugly, and then gain acceptance. Example of another car that's kind of ugly would be the VW Bug, but now it's an icon.

If the cyber truck had come roaring out of the showroom, effortlessly zipping up sheer rock faces, fording previously unpassable rapids, and crossing deserts on a single charge, It would be the coolest car in the world. Instead, it randomly shuts down, risk chopping off your fingers when you open close the trunk, and apparently can't get very wet. Therefore, it looks silly, and it is silly.

1

u/Susanna-Saunders 22d ago edited 22d ago

There are a whole bunch of other stupid and dangerous features about it that you haven't mentioned... Why do you think it's been largely banned across Europe? Because of its crappy looks?

1

u/AbeRego 22d ago

Yeah, they're shit trucks. That's my entire point. I didn't want to go through every single little thing that's wrong with them because that would have taken forever. However, most people are simply commenting on their looks, and it certainly would have been possible to make a fantastic truck that looks liike the Cybertruck does. The Cybertruck is simply not that truck.

1

u/Susanna-Saunders 22d ago

Even on looks it's a fail. There is a requirement that there should be no sharp edges along front (and rear) panels that might hit pedestrians to reduce injuries (there is also a requirement for these to be fairly easily collapsible crumple zones for the same reasons). So this truck fails even on 'looks' because of its sharp angular edges.

I can't imagine buying a cybertruck

1

u/Susanna-Saunders 22d ago

Oh I can! Admittedly I'd have to be lobotomised first but it's technically a possibility!

1

u/literalbuttmuncher 23d ago

The Cybertruck pre-orders went up before Biden took office (Nov 2019). Elon has been a known douche since the submarine incident, but didn't go off-the-rails cuckoo for fascism puffs (or at least make it public) until ~2022. There's a gap there for people to give them the benefit of the doubt, I'd say.

1

u/palm0 23d ago

I mean that picture looks like it was made in MS paint.

1

u/Alpham3000 23d ago

Downvote me, i don’t care. But I personally love the design of the cyber truck, but I do agree there are some safety concerns.

Would I buy one? No. Do I want one? Yes. Do I want one when you take Elon into account? No.

So when it was first revealed and able to be bought, I would definitely say there are some of us who would have gotten it.

1

u/Fishing_Explosive 23d ago

Nobody should feel shame about the car they drive lmao. Redditors are so out of touch with reality it’s genuinely pathetic
