The joy of whooping yo’ kids ass in video games is unmatched! 😂😂🥰🥰

u/SMUDGEONTHEWALL Nov 04 '20

My dad still kicks my ass in every NES game. I don’t think I’ll ever beat him

440

u/SVK_Octane Nov 04 '20

This guy got serious nostalgia during that opening, holy hell

104

u/Temptime19 Nov 05 '20

God that brings me back to being a kid, such a super fun game.

70

u/MayorOfMonkeyIsland Nov 05 '20

Brings me back to college.

"No Oddjob, yo. Oddjob just ain't cool."

fuck you all, Imma be Oddjob

Shit proceeds to get real

27

u/Prof_Alchem Nov 05 '20

Slappers only Fools.

14

u/MaryJaneDoe Nov 05 '20

Slappers only + one hit kill

4

u/mass_of_gallon_sloth Nov 05 '20

Slappers Only, License to Kill, no Oddjob.

Everyone proceeds to kneel down and run around slapping wildly.

My mom and dad kick my ass in every RTS. Before the original servers of the age of empire series shut down my parents were ranked in the top 10,000. Now they play on steam but not as competitively.

4

u/importvita Nov 05 '20

Age of Empires is my favorite RTS all-time due to nostalgia. Tell your parents I love them.

I became a mario kart 64 speedrunner just to beat my dad at it

45

u/Mynock33 Nov 05 '20

Why take that away from him?

7

u/cackslop Nov 05 '20

He's probably proud as hell.

28

u/RSTowers Nov 05 '20

Congratulations, he now regrets you.

10

u/bmosm Nov 05 '20

Don't do that :/

5

u/Comfortable_Ad_1128 Nov 05 '20

Congratulations, your dad hates you.

My dad can probably still demolish me in Godzilla DAMM or Save the Earth.

Yeah, went to a kids birthday party and they were all playing some smash brothers on switch and were talking some smack like they were gods. The father warned me that they were damn good. Last time I played it was on GameCube. First round I did good, then warmed up to controls, then beat the snot out of them for the next hour, with them even on the same team against me. The adults started watching and were in awe.

My misspent youth finally paid dividends.

39

u/rustang2 Nov 04 '20

Dude sometimes I think I was born 10 years too early.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

Sometimes, usually being the one getting whooped, I feel like I was born 10 years too late.

62

u/American--American Nov 04 '20

Literally just picked up an SNES so I can beat my kids ass at Mario Kart.

Fuck that new shit, where the loser gets all kinds of buffs and the leader gets handicapped. That's for sissy kids who are afraid to lose.

I stomped him for about an hour straight, then I let him hit me with a shell. Still stomped his ass, but he was happy with that shell.

I'll take it easy with him on most things, but when we're playing old school video games, the shit I grew up with (and got smashed at by my brothers), it's no holds barred. Try me at F-Zero, or SF2. No way, kiddo, you're in for a beating.

9

u/TheTacoWombat Nov 05 '20

Super Dodge Ball is my go-to for ass whooping. I still have the muscle memory for most of the super moves.

5

u/American--American Nov 05 '20

My kid watched me run through the first chunk of Super Mario World like I had been playing it daily for years. Still remember most of the secrets too.

It's crazy how much of that is still in there.. yet I forget other things constantly.

8

u/TheTacoWombat Nov 05 '20

I can recall the exact timing to get a sub-frame special move in Super Dodge Ball with certain characters I used to do all the time as a 12 year old, but I lose my wallet inside my own home daily.

8

u/M_TobogganPHD Nov 05 '20

I hate games that do that. Getting crushed builds character.

9

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

If you can't whoop em in real life anymore, least you could do is whoop em in snes. There's some value in knowing what a proper ass whooping feels like.

Extended family playing Mario kart 64. Had never played it, but a jillion hours of OG Mariokart translated just fine, despite having not played a video game in 20 years.

Might have been a fluke, but took first, dropped that controller, and walked out so we’ll never know.

(Now my own kids are playing it on iPads, which at a glance looks like some complicated bullshit. No you can’t have money to buy a hang glider!)

2

u/constantly-sick Nov 05 '20

I like this. Sometimes a child needs to be reminded that adults can can still virtually kick their ass every once in a while. Good for them to learn they can grow.

2

u/thatG_evanP Nov 05 '20

You just named two of my all-time favorite games from my childhood. Damn, the memories.

19

u/FistaKufs Nov 05 '20

My kid will not play me in the original trilogy of mortal kombat. I beat his ass with every guy he asked me to be.

17

u/Sepultado Nov 05 '20

My dad used to have Monday’s and Tuesday’s off when we were kids. He’d brush up on his Mortal Kombat skills while we were at school and would totally whoop our asses whenever we got home. That’s a memory I’ll take to my grave.

7

u/luckymonkey12 Nov 05 '20

Evander Holyfield's Real Deal Boxing on Sega Genesis was my shit. Last time someone asked me to play it, I had to say no. It just wouldn't be any fun for anyone. I don't even enjoy winning because it's just too easy of a game to exploit so the opponent has zero chance.

201

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

He eventually ends up actually tea bagging him.

194

u/MechanicalHorse Nov 05 '20

Ok cool but what about in the game?

34

u/childhood__obesity Nov 05 '20

Bruh his dad gave him a old hammy sandwich

253

u/shotbinky Nov 04 '20

So did you play multi and who won? That music got me too, nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

71

u/poopsicle_88 Nov 04 '20

They played one shot pistols

96

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '20

Slappers only, no Odd Job.

32

u/KrymsonHalo Nov 05 '20

Golden Gun, No Oddjob. This is the way.

17

u/Libitica Nov 05 '20

Dude is about to get proximity mines + ammo grabbed

7

u/Smegma_Sommelier Nov 05 '20

I legit started so many fights with proximity mines. Especially in that industrial complex map. So many untouchable corners and below floors and armor and ammo boxes to pick up. Good times n

57

Wish I had a dad lmao

2

u/3faded Nov 05 '20

Wait, you guys have dads?

11

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

What are you doing swap brother?

147

u/Elriuhilu Nov 04 '20

How did he make it look decent on a modern tv? I tried to play star wars racer on my flat panel and it looked like a kaleidoscope.

102

u/SMUDGEONTHEWALL Nov 04 '20

He probably had a HDMI conversion cable

24

u/Columbus43219 Nov 04 '20

Do you know of one that has a playable lag????

15

u/iSeize Nov 04 '20

My Retrotink from retromania is great. Although the volume has a peaking problem that's mildly annoying

8

u/SMUDGEONTHEWALL Nov 04 '20

They have lag?

7

u/Columbus43219 Nov 04 '20

Not a lot, but some reviews of different ones say it makes the game unplayable. It takes a fraction of a second to convert then upscale the signal. Some are apparently faster than others.

11

u/m_antis Nov 04 '20

Perhaps he’s running it on an emulator using something such as /r/retropie

10

u/Columbus43219 Nov 04 '20

My retropie 3b+ can NOT push the N64 emulator to work with GoldenEye. It comes up like a 386.

6

u/ACantabrana Nov 05 '20

What's a 386

4

u/_Aj_ Nov 05 '20

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_80386

Intel cpu from the late 80s. Ie very slow

5

u/racinreaver Nov 05 '20

They were snappy at the time, especially when you got the Turbo Button! I could load up Commander Keen off a floppy in mere seconds.

2

u/_Aj_ Nov 05 '20

Ayeeee. You can get Keen on android too now if you want to relive it!

Turbo button was trouble too. Poor Pac Man went at about 1000x speed on our system.

That's what happens when you tie game speed to the cpu clock

→ More replies (1)

3

u/ACantabrana Nov 05 '20

Thank you friend!!

5

u/_Aj_ Nov 05 '20

You need more power.

I had this issue on starwars racer. My 2A usb wasn't enough. You need 3A and a good quality USB cable for it to run in high power mode.

5

u/Doctologist Nov 05 '20

You can see the 64 just behind him, when he steps to the side. Both controls are plugged in and it’s powered on.

2

u/anonymity012 Nov 04 '20

The emulator looks great and plays just the same

2

u/TinyHomeGnome Nov 05 '20

Some modern TVs have a setting to “dumb down” the resolution to work better with older consoles.

84

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '20

Oh man Goldeneye was amazing. My entire 5th grade afternoons were spent pretending I was Pierce Brosnan.

12

u/_Aj_ Nov 05 '20

It's both amazing and horrible.

You go back and play it and suddenly you can't tell what something is in the distance and you remember how much it sucks to aim AND move with a single stick (don't get me started on C buttons for aim down sights)

2

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

I didn't grow up on it. It was indexed (effectively banned if you didn't order it as an import or if you lived right next to the border as we did, you could've just gotten it there, it's what everyone did pre-DRM) in Germany (maybe it still is, i don't know, they did take lots of games off the index in the last 10 years, including Doom). Besides, we were too young. I only recently started playing it. I tried it out before using an original N64 controller and that was terrible. Playing it with the Brawler64 is actually pretty fun and i feel it hasn't aged too badly.

2

u/Amphabian Nov 05 '20

It wasn't perfect, but when we were kids it was.

u/Dogfood54 Nov 05 '20

21

u/khelwen Nov 04 '20

Spyro on PS1 was amazing!

11

u/UnrulySuffix Nov 04 '20

I still play it every once in a while...at age 33.

u/khelwen Nov 04 '20

I’m also 33. Hello friend.

16

u/slaberwoki Nov 04 '20

Proximity mines on Aztec

6

u/FupaK00pa Nov 04 '20

Complex/Rockets or Facility/Power Weapons was my playgroup's jam. Facility/Prox mines was fun too. There's just something about someone gettin' blown up when they tried hiding in the shitter.

10

u/skwadyboy Nov 04 '20

Man i was so good at this game, i was in the british army when this came out, after roll-call in the mornings if we had nothing happening, everybody would crowd into my room to play 4 player on goldeneye...also if you ever visited Buckingham palace or windsor castle back in the late 1990s there was a high chance that the guardsman that were not on duty were playing this in the guard room at the time.

9

u/Gibbon-Face-91 Nov 04 '20

I'm still mad that the XBLA remaster of it was cancelled.

9

u/cheerfullklutz Nov 04 '20

"Watch it, he about to...BLAP!"

Love this. I really needed a laugh today.

8

u/godbullseye Nov 04 '20

We are buying my son a Switch for the soul purpose of also buying Super Smash Brothers and Mario Kart...kids going to get an education in how we did it in the 90’s

3

u/MaebeeNot Nov 05 '20

Beware! I gave my 6 yr old a controller to "play" against me on Mario Kart on a 100cc race, knowing she would just mess about in last place and I might possibly get a few moments of peace from her UNENDING torrent of chatter. She came in 4th. The next race she came in 2nd. I have never won another round of Mario Kart again unless that beautiful blond hair blue eyed demon is sleeping.

8

u/houseaddict Nov 05 '20

Mate, I think you're just shit at it.

4

u/Dannypan Nov 05 '20

My dad hates losing and will happily beat his children in video games to prove “adults are better than kids” at gaming.

It didn’t take very long for me to prove him otherwise when I was 7-8 in multiplayer. Kids learn how to play games fast.

Case in point, I’m now 28 and believe kids ruin multiplayer games. I say it’s because they’re toxic but it’s mostly because they’re better than me.

6

Excitable boy they all said... well he’s just an excitable boy.

7

u/tb0ne315 Nov 04 '20

That is a super fun reaction. Sad part is the game has not aged well at all. I had a chance to do four player split screen last year, and I can barely believe I used to think the game was not only playable but amazing.

7

u/Cyberprog Nov 04 '20

This was easily the best game for the n64. Such a shame its successor Perfect Dark was such a flop due to needing extra video memory which more than doubled its cost.

3

u/paulfinort Nov 05 '20

Buddies and I spent soo much time playing Perfect Dark. Goldeneye was the OG tho.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '20

Perfect Dark was a flop? That game was bloody amazing, I'd put it on par with Goldeneye 64.

Nostalgia overload. I get the same feeling playing and hearing Sonic 2 on Sega Genesis.

2

u/jennordinary Nov 05 '20

If I hear the opening “Seeeegggggggaaaaaa” from the original Sonic game, it’s just a rush of childhood memories for me.

We didn’t have a Sega until after it had been out for some time but the kid who lived next door to my grandparents got one for Christmas that year so I’d watch him play and then we would take turns. Ahhh! Such a good time!

2

u/yelo777 Nov 05 '20

My Sega was a Christmas gift too. Still listen to the soundtrack from time to time :)

3

u/Naveedamin7992 Nov 05 '20

It's sad that there aren't many games at all that make me feel like this these days.

2

u/FreddyTheMeme Nov 04 '20

That's gonna be me when I'm playing cod cw zombies

2

u/ChilledAndThrilled Nov 04 '20
