He eventually ends up actually tea bagging him.

So did you play multi and who won? That music got me too, nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

They played one shot pistols

Slappers only, no Odd Job.

u/KrymsonHalo Nov 05 '20
Golden Gun, No Oddjob. This is the way.
17
u/Libitica Nov 05 '20
Dude is about to get proximity mines + ammo grabbed
7
u/Smegma_Sommelier Nov 05 '20
I legit started so many fights with proximity mines. Especially in that industrial complex map. So many untouchable corners and below floors and armor and ammo boxes to pick up. Good times n

How did he make it look decent on a modern tv? I tried to play star wars racer on my flat panel and it looked like a kaleidoscope.
102
u/SMUDGEONTHEWALL Nov 04 '20
He probably had a HDMI conversion cable
24
u/Columbus43219 Nov 04 '20
Do you know of one that has a playable lag????
15
u/iSeize Nov 04 '20
My Retrotink from retromania is great. Although the volume has a peaking problem that's mildly annoying
8
u/SMUDGEONTHEWALL Nov 04 '20
They have lag?
7
u/Columbus43219 Nov 04 '20
Not a lot, but some reviews of different ones say it makes the game unplayable. It takes a fraction of a second to convert then upscale the signal. Some are apparently faster than others.

Perhaps he’s running it on an emulator using something such as /r/retropie
10
u/Columbus43219 Nov 04 '20
My retropie 3b+ can NOT push the N64 emulator to work with GoldenEye. It comes up like a 386.
6
u/ACantabrana Nov 05 '20
What's a 386
4
u/_Aj_ Nov 05 '20
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_80386
Intel cpu from the late 80s. Ie very slow
5
u/racinreaver Nov 05 '20
They were snappy at the time, especially when you got the Turbo Button! I could load up Commander Keen off a floppy in mere seconds.
2
u/_Aj_ Nov 05 '20
Ayeeee. You can get Keen on android too now if you want to relive it!
Turbo button was trouble too. Poor Pac Man went at about 1000x speed on our system.
That's what happens when you tie game speed to the cpu clock

u/_Aj_ Nov 05 '20
You need more power.
I had this issue on starwars racer. My 2A usb wasn't enough. You need 3A and a good quality USB cable for it to run in high power mode.
5
u/Doctologist Nov 05 '20
You can see the 64 just behind him, when he steps to the side. Both controls are plugged in and it’s powered on.

Some modern TVs have a setting to “dumb down” the resolution to work better with older consoles.
84
Nov 04 '20
Oh man Goldeneye was amazing. My entire 5th grade afternoons were spent pretending I was Pierce Brosnan.
12
u/_Aj_ Nov 05 '20
It's both amazing and horrible.
You go back and play it and suddenly you can't tell what something is in the distance and you remember how much it sucks to aim AND move with a single stick (don't get me started on C buttons for aim down sights)
2
Nov 05 '20
I didn't grow up on it. It was indexed (effectively banned if you didn't order it as an import or if you lived right next to the border as we did, you could've just gotten it there, it's what everyone did pre-DRM) in Germany (maybe it still is, i don't know, they did take lots of games off the index in the last 10 years, including Doom). Besides, we were too young. I only recently started playing it. I tried it out before using an original N64 controller and that was terrible. Playing it with the Brawler64 is actually pretty fun and i feel it hasn't aged too badly.

I almost cried when I found and fired up my old PS1 and it still had Spyro in the reader.
21
u/khelwen Nov 04 '20
Spyro on PS1 was amazing!
11
u/UnrulySuffix Nov 04 '20
I still play it every once in a while...at age 33.

Man i was so good at this game, i was in the british army when this came out, after roll-call in the mornings if we had nothing happening, everybody would crowd into my room to play 4 player on goldeneye...also if you ever visited Buckingham palace or windsor castle back in the late 1990s there was a high chance that the guardsman that were not on duty were playing this in the guard room at the time.

Beware! I gave my 6 yr old a controller to "play" against me on Mario Kart on a 100cc race, knowing she would just mess about in last place and I might possibly get a few moments of peace from her UNENDING torrent of chatter. She came in 4th. The next race she came in 2nd. I have never won another round of Mario Kart again unless that beautiful blond hair blue eyed demon is sleeping.
8
u/houseaddict Nov 05 '20
Mate, I think you're just shit at it.

u/Dannypan Nov 05 '20
My dad hates losing and will happily beat his children in video games to prove “adults are better than kids” at gaming.
It didn’t take very long for me to prove him otherwise when I was 7-8 in multiplayer. Kids learn how to play games fast.
Case in point, I’m now 28 and believe kids ruin multiplayer games. I say it’s because they’re toxic but it’s mostly because they’re better than me.

My reaction every time I decided to play Ocarina of Time. I love my N64.
6
7
u/tb0ne315 Nov 04 '20
That is a super fun reaction. Sad part is the game has not aged well at all. I had a chance to do four player split screen last year, and I can barely believe I used to think the game was not only playable but amazing.

This was easily the best game for the n64. Such a shame its successor Perfect Dark was such a flop due to needing extra video memory which more than doubled its cost.
3
u/paulfinort Nov 05 '20
Buddies and I spent soo much time playing Perfect Dark. Goldeneye was the OG tho.

Nostalgia overload. I get the same feeling playing and hearing Sonic 2 on Sega Genesis.
2
u/jennordinary Nov 05 '20
If I hear the opening “Seeeegggggggaaaaaa” from the original Sonic game, it’s just a rush of childhood memories for me.
We didn’t have a Sega until after it had been out for some time but the kid who lived next door to my grandparents got one for Christmas that year so I’d watch him play and then we would take turns. Ahhh! Such a good time!
2
u/yelo777 Nov 05 '20
My Sega was a Christmas gift too. Still listen to the soundtrack from time to time :)
3
u/Naveedamin7992 Nov 05 '20

But the best part of going back to goldeneye like this is when you try to play it again and the controls and aiming are so messed up that you literally can’t do anything but run into walls
